I stare at him for a moment, speechless.

“Yeah. Don’t like that too much, do you?” His gaze never leaves mine. “Your friend over here put it all out there, and Gen was listening.”

I lunge at Alok and feel the wall break as I throw his back against it.

“What did you do?” I growl.

“I didn’t know Gen was there.” Alok’s face is calm. “Now let me go before I make you.”

I release him and back up, slowly sitting on the bed and my head begins to pound. Dammit. Things couldn’t have gone any worse. This is what I fucking get for thinking I had any kind of control over the situation.

“We need to confirm she is safe; last time we checked, her location showed her here at the hotel,” Cade says.

“Well, she’s not. Obviously. Why didn’t you check Genevieve’s location?” I say, my head bowed.

“Jack.” Cade turns. “Do you have a tracker on Gen’s phone?”

“Don’t ask me! Ask this asshole.” Jack gestures to Alok.

“Uhh… yeah, I don’t even think I had a full conversation with that girl.” Alok shrugs, crossing his arms.

Jack snaps his head toward Alok. “Are you fucking stupid?” Jack waves his hands in the air. “Do you have any idea what that means?”

“Yeah, that’s my bad— I was a bit distracted.” Alok leans against the wall.

Cade comes from my peripheral vision, throwing an uppercut to Alok, grabbing the back of his head and slamming it into his knee. Cade grips his hair, slamming his skull to the wall, their faces nose to nose. “Your bad?” Cade says in a low voice.

Alok laughs, not fighting Cade’s grip. “It means they were never tracking me.” Cade releases Alok and walks over to me.

“Get the fuck up,” he says, looking down at me. “We need to get to the girls, now.” He extends a hand to me.

I look between his eyes and his hand. I knew the truth would come out, but not like this. Even if she hates me—wants nothing to do with me—I won’t let it end like this. He’s right, this is bigger than my pride. I take his hand and stand. His grip is strong for a human. He gives me a knowing look, one that we both understand. We need to save her.

Alok places his arm around Cade. “I like this one.”

Cade glares at him.

“I am not riding bitch again. How the fuck do we get to our trucks?” Jack spits out.

“I will,” Alok says, licking his lips, arm still around Cade.

I feel the air thicken around me, like an oppression.

The pressure in my temples from before becomes sharper than before.

What are you trying to tell me, ghost?

“Fuck,” I say, sitting back down.

“I can go alone, it will be faster. I can find our trucks and send you the location,” Cade says, throwing Alok’s arm off him and backing away.

“So what, you expect me to Uber with a couple of Gods?” Jack’s tone is sarcastic.

“If that’s what it fucking takes.” Cade’s voice is commanding, and Jack doesn’t argue.

“How far could they have gotten?” I ask.

“She would have taken her somewhere Calli feels safe, somewhere public,” Cade says, pulling out his phone.
