Prologue
Vargas
I rubbed the pad of my thumb over my bottom lip as I watched Rain, my own personal little stalker, frown at their phone. I was toying with them, letting my phone stay off so they couldn’t track my location, something my little raindrop hated apparently, if them camping out near the house was any indication.
They were hidden deep in the woods, watching to see if I would leave to go anywhere, but I had no plans of leaving my parents’ house tonight. Tonight, my only plan was to toy with my little raindrop for a bit. It wasn’t my night to wipe some worthless piece of shit from the earth—it was Ike’s turn tonight, which meant Wraith would be going with him since they were damn near inseparable.
I had four brothers, and I was the oldest son. But the four oldest of us—we were quadruplets. Ike and Wraith acted more like twins though. They’d always been closer than the rest of us. I mean, fuck, they were even in a relationship with the same man. But hey, I didn’t yuck anyone else’s yum. I was a serial unaliver who was obsessed with my little stalker. What fucking right did I have to judge, of all people? Besides, just because I couldn’t imagine sharing what belonged to me didn’t mean that didn’t work for my brothers. I knew Onyx, another of my brothers, felt the same way I did.
Rain shifted on the camera, frowning at their phone again, the screen illuminating their blonde hair and sharp bone structure. They truly were beautiful, almost breathtaking. And to know that beauty would soon be all mine…
It damn near made me feral.
My parents were extra cautious and didn’t have a single piece of this property unwatched. So, after I was done toying with Rain, I’d have to wipe the footage and loop old footage in the hopes Pops wouldn’t find out about Rain. Because no doubt when he did, he’d order Rain be wiped out for being a threat to the family and what we did. And no one got to touch my little raindrop.
If it ever got out that we did what the justice system refused to do, we’d all be buried under the jail cells. Seven separate jails, at that, probably spread across the United States. And Pops? They’d probably ship him off to Guantanamo Bay or something for all the shit he’d done, even long before he met Dad and we were brought into the world via surrogacy.
Pops would do anything to protect this family, solely so he never had to be parted from Dad. They were the true definition of possessive, obsessive relationships. Pops was unhinged when it came to Dad.
“If Pops finds out you have a stalker and you’re letting it continue, even entertaining it,” Onyx drawled, “he’s going to knock your teeth of out your mouth and slit their throat right in front of you.”
My lips twitched with the beginnings of a snarl at the mere thought, but I tamped it down. Onyx was younger than me by three minutes, and he was the first of my brothers to fall into… obsession. We weren’t capable of loving, but fuck, we were possessive when we found our person. And Onyx might be the most obsessive of us all… maybe. I had yet to meet my little raindrop in person to put that to the test.
If anyone knew how I felt about Rain, it would be Onyx. Especially considering he’d stalked his own little obsession before claiming him.
“Pops isn’t touching them,” I drawled, feigning nonchalance.
Onyx just hummed. “Pops finds out everything, Vargas,” he reminded me. “I’m not keen on cleaning up your blood from the floor. Or theirs.” He looked at the screen. “Just FYI, it’s about to storm soon.” With that, he turned and left my room. Turning, I scowled at my closed door.
“Stop unlocking my fucking door and letting yourself in,” I barked.
He didn’t bother responding. He’d no doubt come to check in with Pops about something, then realized I was here and came to bother me just because he was an annoying little shit. Fucker. I had no idea how his significant other, Korain, put up with him.
I looked back at the screen, watching as lightning streaked across the sky, confirming Onyx’s warning about an incoming storm. Rain looked up, then scowled, but they made no move to get up and head home. I had no doubt that if I didn’t turn my location back on so they could track me once more, they’d sit right there and wait, no matter how bad the weather got.
“Stubborn little thing,” I murmured, shaking my head.
Grabbing my phone, I switched the device on, not keen on them sitting in the rain and getting ill. Rain jerked in surprise when their device lit up, letting them know my location was being shared once more. They waited a few moments, long enough for the rain to begin coming down hard. Finally, they came to the conclusion I probably wasn’t going to turn my phone back off, and they got up, their jeans muddy and drenched.
“Better remember to take some medicine, raindrop,” I said quietly, tracking them through the cameras as they began leaving the massive property my parents lived on and headed back to their car. “I won’t be happy if my Halloween plans get ruined.”
Halloween was the day I planned to stop playing Rain’s little game. I was going to show them who really held the cards here and who was the better stalker.
And it certainly wasn’t them.
Come Halloween, I would be heading to a masked Halloween party being held by a fraternity at a college campus in the city. Rain would, undoubtedly, follow to make sure I didn’t touch anyone else. If there was one thing I’d learned about my raindrop, it was that they were very possessive of me.
Come Halloween, Rain would officially lose the upper hand in this stalking the stalker thing we had going on, and we’d begin playing my game.
And in my game, there was only one winner. Only one person came out on top.
And that person would be me.
Because when it came to Rain Cordell… I was un-fucking-tamable.
