I looked at her. “Zeke said he recognized the curse in your mind.”
She looked at him as he nodded.
“Both Cyn and I know what it feels like. There’s no mistaking it. I don’t know how you’ve gone this long without it taking over.”
Ezra entered the room, pulling a small bottle filled with cloudy beige liquid from his pocket. “If she drinks this, it’ll eradicate the remnants of the curse. This wouldn’t have worked if the curse had attached itself to you the way it had to Zeke.”
Cyn took the bottle from him and turned on the bed, drawing his leg up to face her. He uncorked it and held it out.
Her eyebrows drew together. “I can drink it myself.”
The bottle shook slightly in his hand, but he said nothing.
Zeke had told me about his breakdown while she was gone.
He’d also told me Cyn hadn’t hesitated when Rae fell.
He’d jumped.
Jumped without a plan, knowing he likely wouldn’t survive the fall.
I’d known it wouldn’t be long before he’d be forced to face his feelings for her, but I hadn’t expected those feelings to shake him this badly.
Cyn didn’t sacrifice himself for anyone except Zeke.
Until now.
“Humor him,” I whispered.
She glanced at me, her nose scrunched adorably. “This is weird,” she mumbled, crawling across my legs toward Cyn.
I slid over, letting her take my spot.
Cyn reached up and cupped the side of her neck, brushing his thumb over her lower lip, then across her jaw as he tilted her head back.
Her breath hitched.
He held the bottle to her lips as she opened them, pouring the liquid in while her throat worked until the bottle was drained. Once she finished, he passed the bottle to me.
She lifted her head to stare at him.
With his other hand cupping her jaw, he leaned in, slotting his mouth over hers. She whimpered and moved to her knees, and he pulled her closer, fingers threading into her hair.
The kiss lasted only seconds, but the room filled with the potent scent of roses and plums, making blood fill my cock.
Ezra clenched his fists.
Cyn released her, letting her settle back against the headboard. “We need to talk,” he mumbled. “Not now. Soon.”
Her fingers brushed her lips as she nodded.
I chuckled.
Though it was awkward and messy, I wouldn’t say a word if he were finally opening up to her.
“Father has sent word that we are to meet in the council chambers when she wakes,” Ezra said, breaking the tension in the air. “I suspect someone will be here to fetch us soon, given the wards tracking our movements. They’ll know she’s awake.”
“Cornaith?” Rae’s eyes widened. “He’s the reason I ended up there.”
