She hesitated. “I didn’t think we were going inside.”

“Just for a minute.” They parked in the lot outside the large Victorian mansion, and Wes said over his shoulder, “I promise it won’t be boring.”

“I wasn’t worried about being bored. More like interrupting.”

Matt kicked his legs. “I want to go inside.”

“You won’t be interrupting. I promise.” He tilted his head toward the immense house. “Come on. It might even be fun.”

“I guess we’re all going,” she said.

Bailey carried a small bag with Ryan’s phone and the key in one hand and held Matt’s hand in the other. Matt half-jumped, half-skipped as they approached the sweeping stairs to the grand front door. Two women walked out. One had dark hair with bright turquoise highlights, and the other wore a jewel-blue blouse and a killer pair of shoes.

“Looks like the welcoming committee couldn’t wait for you to come in.” Wes led them up the stairs. “Meet my boss, Viv, who you’ve talked to before, and this is our social media hunter, Scarlett Wu.”

“Scar,” she offered.

“I don’t know what a social media hunter is, but it’s nice to meet you both.”

Scar’s deep laughter rang out. “Imagine your best wrangler of the dark web and online media tracker, and that’s me.”

“Good to meet you in person,” Viv added, shaking Bailey’s hand after Scar. “Do you want to come inside?”

“I want to see the stained glass,” Matt said.

Wes grinned and nodded toward the house. “Let’s roll. The ladies can catch up with us when they’re ready.”

Matt let go of her hand and ran to Wes. Bailey watched him leave without looking over his shoulder. That was good. Her baby was growing up—or maybe just finding the right people to trust.

“They’re getting on well,” Scar noted.

Vivian tracked Wes and Matt, adding, “It seems all three of you are.”

“Turns out we don’t dislike each other as much as we thought.” She lifted her shoulder. “Well, I guess I never disliked him.”

“Who could dislike Wes?” Scarlett laughed as they walked in.

“He’s pushed me to the edge at times,” Vivian admitted. “But only because he’s as headstrong as I am.”

Wes had pushed Bailey to the edge a few times too, and she’d loved every second. She watched Wes and Matt jog up the wide, soaring stairs that looked like something out of a movie. “This place is nothing like I would’ve guessed.”

“We get that a lot. It was fun to renovate. Let me show you to my office. Scar, will you tell Dean that Bailey’s here?”

“Sure thing. Hope to see you around while you’re in town.”

Bailey said goodbye and followed. Their office felt like the Cosgrove estate if it had a cool vibe. Instead of a stuffy mansion, Titan had a gothic one. Instead of portraits of generations of Cosgroves, the building hummed with interesting people.

She turned at the sound of a knock and saw Vivian wave someone in.

“Bailey, this is Dean Whitlow.”

They shook hands. Dean had the same look as Callum and Wes. Tall and handsome, with a glint in his eye that said he could be dangerous but still trustworthy. Before she’d arrived at Granite Creek, she’d seen that dichotomy only in Wes. Now she’d seen it in Callum and Dean. Vivian called their operation Titan Protectors, and they all looked like they were born to do just that.

She offered Dean the bag. “Here are the items Wes told you about.”

He peeked inside and pulled out the key, turning it over and inspecting the design on top. “Any idea what this symbol is?”

Bailey shook her head. “Never seen it before.”
