Smiling, he shook his head.

“I still remember how you looked at me when you just walked in with our dad. You were so small, and Dad told me to protect you.”

He never stopped protecting me, but I wondered if he would keep protecting me when he knew what I did.

I looked around. Searching… searching for that perfect prey.

It had been a while, and the hunger was quickly devouring me.

After Valentina and almost getting caught, I didn’t enjoy my previous kill as much as I should have.

It started and ended quickly, and now the nightmares were back.

My mother was back.

I will never go away.

“Can I buy you a drink?”

I looked up to see a guy staring at a girl.

“I’m not allowed to drink,” she said with a shrug, looking very unimpressed. Her lips pressed together when the guy moved closer.

“Oh, come on. Don’t be coy. You have been looking at me.”

She sighed, looking bored. “I wasn’t looking at you,” she said. “I was waiting for my friend.”

“There’s no friend,” the man insisted. She didn’t look like it rattled her. She handled him like she had been handling men like him forever.

“Listen here—”

“Harold,” he said quickly.

“Whatever. I have no interest in drinking with you, or doing anything else with you. Capiche?”

He huffed, slamming his glass on the counter.

“Such a snotty bitch.”

“Is he bothering you?” I stepped in. The man looked at me with a grunt.

She shook her head.

“It’s fine. He is bothering me only as much as a buzzing fly. I can deal with it.”

“Listen, man, she doesn’t want to drink with you. Just scram.”

“Who the hell are you?”

“Scram before I call the security and throw you out.”

The guy muttered ‘bastard’ under his breath before he walked away. She smiled.

“Thank you, but I could have managed it.”

“You’re we-welcome, and you shouldn’t have to.” I turned away from her, not missing the curious look in her eyes.

She’d make the perfect victim, but I just had to make sure she could never be traced back to Onyx. Onyx was my brother’s dream, and I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize it.
