When York glanced at me, I admired how his eyes were warm brown like expensive leather and lined with thick, dark lashes.

York wore his Black Rainbow vest over the black thermal shirt. His black jeans clung to his muscular ass and thighs.

“I thought you weren’t supposed to ride alone in Little Memphis,” I scolded York.

“I’m here with Ojai and Fuzzy.”

I looked around the large clubhouse to find none of his fellow Baton Rouge boys. “Do they know they’re here with you?”

“Fuzzy ate a bad burrito. Ojai met a girl,” York said and finally made eye contact with me. “As I said, I’m here with my people.”

“Don’t pucker your ass over a simple question.”

“I’m too old to be babysat.”

“I don’t know what to tell you, bud,” I replied, trying to sound casual. “Clint worries you’ll get your ass beat by the Baton Rouge rejects if you ride alone. He treats you boys like children out of love and concern. You should thank him.”

York turned slightly and looked me over. “That’s rich coming from someone who threw down with them days ago.”

Without thinking, I touched my shorter hair and sighed. “Why do you have to be such a bitch by reminding me of my bad hair day?”

“I’ll answer your question if you explain why you're talking to me.”

His gruff tone nearly sent me scrambling away from the angry biker. However, his gaze softened just in time to save my plan. I’d never seen him looking at anyone in the way I often caught him looking at me.

“I’m not interested in dating, and I would rather tattoo my face than get a boyfriend,” I told York, winning a scowl from the handsome biker. “But I think you’re hot, and I’m feeling insecure about my new haircut. So, do you think you’re capable of rubbing genitals with me without turning into a clingy bitch?”

“I’m not sure. You’re an eloquent chick. It’s possible I won’t be able to help myself.”

Grinning at his teasing, I nudged York and downed my shot. “I’ll tell you what. If you do get a schoolyard crush on me, I’ll file for a restraining order and let the law handle the problem. Until then, I’m heading to a nearby hotel, where I plan to run around naked. If you would like to help get me off, feel free to follow. But don’t tell your friends because I’m a reserved fox who doesn’t want anyone knowing her business. Get me?”

“I get you.”

Nudging him again, I jumped off the stool and waved goodbye to my friends nearby. Jas and Nine paused their arm-wrestling battle to flip me off.

Outside, I found the windy night had settled since I arrived. I climbed onto my cherry-red motorcycle and started the engine. The familiar rumble relaxed me. I felt wrong with my shorter hair fluttering in the breeze. Insecure again, I wondered if York would appear outside.

Before I could reconsider my crush, the Fire Hooch’s front door was pushed open, and York appeared. I revved my engine and slowly pulled out of the parking lot.

As soon as York rolled up next to me, I flashed him a grin and took off. With a hotel in mind, I had zero doubts about my plan. What harm was there in an itty-bitty taste?

YORK LACROIX

Why was I back in Little Memphis again? I found myself in this town far too often, especially now that I had bought a house and adopted a dog in Baton Rouge. Yet, here I was again.

Little Memphis with its dual motorcycle clubs was important to my president, Zodiac Bondi. One of the first stories he ever told me was about a guy named Ford Reed who beat him in a fight.

“I had the fucker dead to rights,” Zodiac always said. “He knew I had him, too. So, he pulled out a bat. I didn’t even see him go for it. Reed was that fucking fast. Suddenly, he nailed me in the knee. I still feel that shit when the weather turns cold.”

That incident had stuck with Zodiac. Ford Reed had been a top killer in the Little Memphis Motorcycle Club. Our old president had gotten it in his head to take the Arkansas territory. Wrecker had a lot of flighty fucking ideas, and few of them ever came back to haunt him.

Wrecker had been the one to recruit Zodiac into the Black Rainbow. That choice would no doubt haunt him to his dying breath.

The Little Memphis Motorcycle Club was disbanded after their president, Joker Curran, got fucked up in a wreck. Two clubs had risen out of the ashes. One was the LM Jokers, run by Joker’s kid, Tricky. The other was the Crimson Guard, led by Ford Reed’s only son.

These days, Zodiac was more interested in Ford’s only daughter. Elle was a hot blonde biker with a big mouth and a bigger ego. She figured she could handle a man like Zodiac. Hell, if she didn’t prove to be right about that.

The couple planned to get married after their son was born. I figured one day Zodiac’s kid would be the asshole in charge. I hoped to be long retired by that point.
