“She’s teething, Darius. He said it was normal.”

“It is not acceptable.”

I slipped an arm around his waist, rested my cheek against his chest, and leaned into him as his hand settled on my back.

“I know you hate seeing her hurt. So do I. But she’s safe, and she’ll be all right.”

Darius turned towards Eira, who was collecting the toys near the wall.

“Eira, would you remain with the girls?”

“Of course, my lord.”

“Alaric has called a Pack meeting,” he told me.

“Now?” I looked back at the girls.

“Eira will call us if either girl wakes.”

“I will,” she promised. “I’ll stay beside them.”

I took one last look at my babies, then left the nursery, holding his hand.

“What happened?”

“Alaric will explain. Everyone is here.”

Everyone? I rarely had all five of them home in the middle of the afternoon.

Alaric and Lucien sat on one sofa in the sitting room, while Caius and Leon sat on the other. All four stood when we came in.

“Please don’t get up. It makes me feel like I’m about to be told the house is being repossessed.”

Leon held out his hand, so I joined him on the sofa and watched as Darius settled near Caius.

“We are in no danger of losing our home, my darling,” Lucien said.

“Oh, good.” I looked around at them. “Then why do you all look like someone’s died?”

Alaric leaned forward. “The investigation into how you came to this world has reached a point where we can tell you what happened.”

Leon’s hand tightened around mine. I tried not to think too much about how I’d ended up here, especially now that I had my mates and our girls. High Mountain was home, but if there was a way between worlds, maybe Ivy and Nora could come here one day. I could give them a better life here. My mates had more than enough to provide for all of us.

“We have officially confirmed that our reality is not the only one that exists,” Alaric said. “There are others alongside it. Some are very similar to ours, while others developed differently.”

I leaned forward, my heart beating faster.

“And you have proof? Actual proof they exist? Apart from me?”

“We have, my heart. Your reality is known to us as C-17. We also found that some people in C-17 have counterparts in our world.”

“Like me and the other Elowen. That’s why her family thought I was her, isn’t it?” I spoke so fast I wasn’t sure they’d caught any of it.

“Yes. People with the same appearance and genetic make-up,” Lucien explained.

“Doubles. They’re doubles!”

“Yes, my darling.”
