My eyes filled before I could answer. He picked up the napkin and caught a tear as it slipped down my cheek.

“I’ve been trying so hard to be happy here. And I am happy. I just miss them so much.”

“You can tell me when you miss them, my heart. You don’t have to hide it from me.”

I pressed my face into his neck, wanting to stay there.

“I love you so much.”

His arm tightened around me, and I pulled back enough to see his face.

“I’m sorry. I wanted to tell you on a special occasion.”

“Do not apologise.” He held me close, his answer warm against my cheek. “I shall remember this one.”

“Do you love me?”

“Beyond reason.”

I held his face and kissed him, taking my time as he turned towards me and put his hand against the back of my neck. I could have stayed there kissing him, but his dinner was getting cold after I’d made all that fuss about him eating it.

“Finish your dinner,” I whispered. “I’m staying right here.”

I rested against him while he ate, happy to have his arm around me and no one standing beside the desk waiting for him. Once he’d finished, I moved the tray aside and shifted on his lap until I was straddling him.

Alaric kissed me just as eagerly, pulling the robe from my shoulders and letting it fall as I pressed closer. His hands came down to my arse, squeezing firmly, and when he broke the kiss, he kept his mouth against mine.

“Will my Omega ride her Alpha tonight?”

“Yes.”

I tipped my head back as he kissed my neck, holding his hair while his mouth travelled lower.

“I’ll ride you hard and fast.”

He opened his trousers, and we both gasped as I took him in one go. I began to move as his hands held my hips, then stayed low against him and rolled them instead. That made him tense beneath me, so I kept going, watching his face as he let me set the pace.

We came fast and hard, his hands tightening on my hips as he said my name. I was sure the guards could hear me, but I couldn’t keep quiet as I gushed over his cock and soaked the front of his work trousers.

He pulled out before his knot could lock us together and lifted me onto the edge of his desk. I was still catching my breath when he came back with my robe, so I let him help me into it, quite happy to sit there while he looked after me. He even tied it for me and pushed my hair out of my face before sorting out his own trousers, which were in a bit of a state.

“I’ll find you something clean when we get back.”

“There’s a change in the dressing room, my heart.”

I curled against him as he picked me up, resting one hand over his heart. He carried me easily, though the shadows under his eyes hadn’t gone away.

“You can put me down if you need to.”

“I have you.”

I rested my head against his shoulder for the walk back, kissing his neck as we passed the guards. In the dressing room, he helped me wash before we changed and climbed into the nest beside Leon and Darius.

He made love to me again, taking his time now that we were in bed. I stayed close through every slow, deep movement, and afterwards, he stayed inside my pussy even when his knot had gone down. His hips were still making little, sleepy thrusts as he started to fall asleep. I pulled the blanket over us and rested my cheek against his hand, letting myself drift off with him.

By the following week, I woke tired no matter how much I slept, and the food I usually liked made me nauseous.

Caius had been away for almost three weeks. I wore one of his shirts whenever I could and kept it under my cheek when I couldn’t, though it did little to help when I really wanted him beside me. I missed him so much.
