Except I remember the end of our first date. His mouth on my face when I hadn't invited it. His slobbery tongue sliding across my chin. His hands gripping my waist when I tried to step back.

The flash of irritation in his eyes when I wouldn't let him inside my house.

Come on, Maggie. Don't be a tease.

I'd laughed nervously. Made an excuse. Closed the door.

Then stood with my back pressed against it until I heard him leave.

I should've told him then.

I should've said no.

Clearly.

Firmly.

Instead, I've spent weeks hoping he'd eventually get bored and move on.

He hasn't.

I glance across the conference table. He's still staring at me. He lifts his eyebrows.

Then points toward his phone.

I look away.

No.

Absolutely not.

Thankfully, for once, I have a legitimate excuse.

Dinner with Dora and Wulfy. And apparently one of Wulfy's friends.

I don't know who.

I don't care.

I'd have dinner with a rabid Troll if it means I don't have to deal with Coach Williams tonight.

The meeting finally ends.

Chairs scrape backward.

Everyone starts gathering their papers.

I shove my notebook into my bag.

Fast.

If I can get out before—

“Hey, Maggie.”

Damn it.

I sling my bag over my shoulder. Coach is already moving around the conference table. Toward me.
