Warm.

Solid.

Safe.

“I really hate confrontation,” I whisper.

The Wolf looks up at me.

“I know. Shocking revelation.”

His head nudges my hip.

“I always think if I'm nice enough, people will eventually understand.”

Another nudge.

“But some people don't, do they?”

He growls. Not at me. At the direction Coach went.

I smile a little.

“Yeah. You really don't like him.”

The Wolf's lips lift.

“Okay, Hannibal Lecter. Settle down.”

His head bumps my hand again. I scratch beneath his chin.

“Maybe Dora's right.”

His ears perk.

“Not about Coach. She's definitely wrong about that.”

I lean against my car.

“Maybe I need to get better at saying no.”

The Wolf sits beside me. Just sits.

No demands.

No crowding.

No telling me how I should feel.

Funny. The giant supposedly feral beast has better manners than the man who keeps insisting he's a perfectly good date.

I look down at him.

“You know, threatening faculty members isn't exactly helping my familiar theory.”

He blinks. I grin. Then I give him another piece of chocolate.

“Thanks for staying.”
