I gasp.
“Seriously?”
Nudge.
“You almost ate a coworker thirty seconds ago.”
Nudge.
“And now you want chocolate?”
Nudge.
I stare at him.
“You have emotional problems.”
He sits.
Then looks at my bag.
I laugh. I can't help it. Some of the lingering fear drains out of me.
“Fine.”
I dig through my tote and pull out the emergency candy bar. I break off a piece.
“One.”
He takes it delicately from my fingers.
The same enormous jaws that almost removed Coach Williams's hand don't so much as scrape my skin.
My chest does that strange little squeeze again.
“Thank you.”
He chews. I scratch behind his ear.
“For what it's worth, I think he deserved the snapping.”
The Wolf leans into my hand.
“But you can't bite faculty.”
He snorts.
“I'm serious.”
Another snort.
“Do you want Supernatural Wildlife Control chasing you around with one of those giant nets?”
His head tilts.
“Exactly.”
I have no idea what that means. I keep petting him anyway. My fingers sink into the thick fur around his neck.
