Nothing.
“Right. Of course you don't. Because you're a Wolf and I've never told you about Coach Williams.”
I scratch behind his ear.
“Anyway, he's the Lion Shifter I had one terrible date with over the summer. The one who won't stop asking me out.”
The Wolf goes completely still.
“Yeah. Him.”
His head lifts. I swear his eyes narrow.
“Don't judge me. I know I should block him.”
A low sound rolls out of his chest. I blink.
“Was that a growl?”
Another one.
Definitely a growl.
“Oh, come on. You don't even know him.”
The Wolf looks toward the Academy.
“You have good instincts though. Trust me, Wolf, I don't like him either.”
His gaze returns to mine.
“He’s pompous. Lion Shifter, you know. Also, he licked my chin.”
The growl that comes out of him this time is loud enough to vibrate through my hand.
I burst out laughing.
“Gross, right? I know!”
Finally, someone understands.
“That's exactly what I said.”
I give him another piece of chocolate.
“Okay, I didn't actually say it because, you know, I don’t do confrontations. But I thought it really loudly.”
He huffs.
“Don't judge me. It’s been a terribly long dry spell.”
I rub his head.
“Anyway, my freshmen class nearly blew up lab three on Monday, someone put a shrinking potion in Professor Jacobs's coffee on Tuesday, and yesterday Dora tried to set me up with a podiatrist.”
The Wolf stares at me.
“Foot doctor.”
