The ballroom gets transformed.
The courtyard gets transformed.
Apparently, even the freaking trees get transformed.
“We're not doing screaming trees again,” Professor Jacobs says.
One of the student volunteers raises his hand. “Why?”
“Because last year one of them screamed for nine consecutive hours.”
“It was enchanted.”
“It was outside my office.”
“Oh.”
“Exactly.”
I make a note on my clipboard.
NO SCREAMING TREES.
Good. Glad we're tackling the important issues.
“The ghosts want to participate this year,” Dora says from across the table.
I look up.
“The Academy ghosts?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Do we want to know how?”
“No.”
“Excellent.”
Truce or not, Dora and I still understand each other.
And we are in a truce.
Sort of.
We haven't officially discussed it. There were no white flags. No peace treaty. No exchange of prisoners.
But sometime during the week, she started leaving coffee on my desk again. I started eating lunch with her again.
And yesterday, I sent her a meme instead of a thumbs-up emoji.
Progress.
I'm still annoyed with her. But she's my best friend.
Turns out being angry with your best friend is exhausting when what you really want is to tell her everything.
Unfortunately, everything includes Grimm biting me during sex.
