“I’m there by six.”
I blink at him. “Of course you are.”
“What does that mean?”
I shrug. “You seem like someone who gets to work before everyone else.”
He smiles. “See? We met yesterday, and you already know me.”
My stomach flips again. I look down at the calendar on my phone. “I can start tomorrow morning if that works.”
“It’s fine.”
“Good. I’ll start with the lobby and probably work my way down the hall.”
He nods, but I’m not completely convinced he’s listening to anything I’m saying. His eyes are on my mouth again.
I wave my hand. “Nick.”
He blinks. “Yeah?”
I tilt my head. “Did you hear me?”
He smiles. “Every word.”
“What did I say?”
His smile widens. “You’re coming tomorrow morning.”
I laugh. “That is not everything I said.”
He shrugs. “It’s the important part.”
I shake my head, but I can’t stop smiling. Eventually, we have no choice but to leave. Nick’s phone has rung at least six more times, and I have another appointment this afternoon. He stands and picks up my folder before I can reach for it.
We’re walking out side by side when he suddenly stops.
Surprised, I lean my head back and look up at him. “What? Did you forget something?”
He looks up, and I follow his gaze. There’s a small bundle of mistletoe hanging over the doorway.
Nick points at it. “That’s mistletoe, right?”
I laugh. “Yes. You really weren’t kidding when you said you don’t know much about Christmas.”
He looks down at me and stares at my mouth again. “I know what mistletoe means.”
My breath catches. “Oh.”
He sets my folder on the small table beside the doorway and takes a step toward me. My back presses against the doorjamb. He leans into me, and my breasts press against his chest. He lifts his hand and cups the side of my face. “I want to kiss you.”
My heart is racing as his thumb brushes across my cheek. “Can I?”
All I can do is nod my head.
He leans down slowly, and the second his lips touch mine, my eyes close. His kiss starts soft, but it doesn’t stay that way. I rise onto my toes and grab the front of his shirt, wanting to get closer.
A low sound comes from his chest as his other arm wraps around my waist and pulls me against him. He kisses me deeper, and I forget where we’re at and everything around us. The feel of him against me has me opening wider, giving him deeper access, and I groan as his tongue slides inside.
