I find Cassian’s number and call him.

He answers on the first ring. “Yo,” he says in his usual, carefree tone.

I smirk and shake my head at him. “You sound relaxed.”

“You know me. Work fucking hard, play harder.”

“Yes, Cass, that does sound like you.”

“What’s up? Don’t tell me you killed Kieran or something.”

“Not yet.” I chuckle. “I need you to do something for me. Something more.”

“Say the word.”

“Do you think we could get some more intel on Gabrielle? I want to know more about her past, and possibly the people who took her and her sister.”

There’s a beat of silence before he answers. I expected that and can almost see him narrowing his eyes in scrutiny.

“Right. I thought the files we already have were enough.”

“They’re basic. I want the stuff you have to dig deep for.”

“Don’t we have enough work to do?”

“What’s a little more?” I smirk.

“Why do I get the feeling this isn’t about Corrado anymore?”

“Can you do it?”

He sighs. “Of course.”

“Then do it, Cass.”

“Alright. I’ll send it over asap. How deep are we thinking? Just the kidnapping or other stuff?”

“Get me everything.” Knowledge is power. In my books, you can’t know too much.

“Alright. I’m on it. Lev….” His voice drops to a serious note.

“What?”

“Careful there. Don’t get pussy-whipped over a pretty face.”

“I’m always careful.”

“Okay. Speak later.”

He hangs up. I gaze ahead at the wall, thinking.

Something about this doesn’t sit right.

A man doesn’t kidnap Corrado D’Auria’s daughters and simply disappear. Not without help. Corrado is many things, but powerless isn’t one of them. If he never found the man responsible, there has to be a reason.

I intend to find out what that reason is.
