The couple met him at the bar.
“So, she gets fucked for a free place to stay?” Kelsey asked as her gaze bounced between the two.
Kid nodded.
She pursed her lips as she considered the arrangement.
Kid stood and reached over the bar for more glasses. This could go one of two ways. Was Kelsey a jealous woman or secure in her relationship with Kevlar? This was always a test for the women who attached themselves to bikers. Could they handle all the patch whores looking to ride their man in hopes of getting on the back of his bike? They were a dime a dozen. Some guys could be faithful, others not so much.
Lord knew Kid and Kevlar’s father couldn’t keep it in his pants. If he could, Kid wouldn’t exist. Kid could name a few bikers who managed monogamy in the face of such temptations. Could he?
That was a good question. He’d never been tempted to try. No one had been interesting enough for him to give up on the idea of someone different and new experiences. From what Kid had seen, Kevlar had no interest in anything more than what Kelsey was giving him. Was she aware of that?
Raising his glass to his lips, Kid waited to see how this would play out.
Kelsey drew her brows together.
Oh, this might take a turn.
He shouldn’t be so giddy about this, but it was fun to see his brother squirm under the thumb of this woman.
“What about her kids?” Kelsey asked.
That wasn’t where he thought this was going. Kids? Who had kids? Who the fuck had Kevlar offered the house mouse position to?
“They’re going to stay with her parents. There isn’t enough room for all of them,” Kevlar explained. “It’s temporary.”
“What the fuck is going on?” Kid finally blurted out.
Groaning, Kevlar reached over him and grabbed the bottle of tequila. He poured two shots and offered one to Kelsey. “A tree landed on Vanessa’s house. It’s going to take months to repair. She needs a place to crash.”
Should Kid feel a certain way that she hadn’t called him to discuss this instead of Kevlar? For a moment, he waited to sense something.
Nothing came. He gave zero shits who Vanessa went to when she needed something. Actually, if anything, he was relieved she didn’t bother him.
Damn. He really was an asshole.
“And some cock, apparently,” Kelsey muttered before she threw back the booze and shuddered.
Kevlar rolled his eyes. “It’s temporary.”
“Beats paying someone to clean up,” Kid said as he considered the option.
“That’s what I’m saying,” his brother agreed as he swallowed his drink as well.
Kelsey put her empty glass on the bar and eyed Kid. “Weren’t you two a thing?”
Kid snorted. “No.”
Kevlar laughed and looped his arm around Kid’s neck, nearly pulling him off the stool. “He’s somewhat of a house mouse himself. He’ll crash anywhere there’s a warm bed and a willing cunt.”
Kelsey glared at Kid.
He shoved his laughing brother away.
Had Carrie told her about what had been going on between them? She’d been the one to insist their arrangement was no-strings-attached. Had she meant it?
The two held each other’s stares, both with unasked questions on their lips.
