Absolutely not.

He wasn’t heartless. He’d just never met someone worthy of holding. The women of his past served a single purpose in his life. Once they’d fucked, what did he have to stick around for?

On the few occasions he had passed out after banging, the women got the wrong idea. The more time a guy spent with a lady, the more she got attached. He had no use for such nonsense. From what he’d seen, women who hung around bikers were nothing but headaches.

His mother included.

She tried to break up a family. His existence was proof of that. All because Snoopy, his dad, couldn’t keep his dick in his pants and snuggled occasionally. That sappy bastard.

So, why was he enjoying the moment with Carrie? Because she needed it. He promised Hitman he’d take care of her. Granted, this wasn’t what either of them meant at the time, but after what Carrie had been through, Kid didn’t think coming and going would be good for her.

The fact that he enjoyed this tender moment with her didn’t mean shit. If she would let him, he’d stay there until the end of time. Or at the very least, until the next round. Who was he kidding? If she kept her clothes off, there would be multiple opportunities for them to indulge in one another. They’d never leave the room.

He was a simple man who liked to fuck. There was no reason to overthink that fact.

Her breathing was smooth and rhythmic. The complete opposite of what she’d been like the previous evening. He preferred her this way.

But wait.

Pulling back, he peered down at her. “Are you asleep?” he asked.

Her body shook with a snicker. “No.” She kissed the T-shirt over his chest. “I’m merely enjoying.”

“Me too,” he admitted and hugged her tighter against him.

“But I don’t think we can stay here forever.”

Who would stop them?

“Why not?” he joked. “We can order food, and there’s a bathroom. It’s pretty sterile out there.”

Leaning back, she eyed him with amusement. His chest filled with warmth like never before.

Though, after a few seconds, her joy flickered, then disappeared. Her smile fell, and her shine dulled. She lowered her gaze and sought to hide in his shoulder.

What the fuck just happened?

“Hey.” Curling his finger beneath her chin, he guided her to meet his gaze. “Where are you going? Come back.”

The fear had returned. “I just…” She cut herself off and licked her bottom lip. “I didn’t…”

He didn’t like the way she hesitated. However, he wasn’t about to finish her sentence for her. Instead, he waited patiently. She’d find her words eventually.

Averting her gaze, she inhaled deeply. “I didn’t come here to fuck you.”

He bit back his chuckle. This wasn’t a time to laugh. He cleared his throat. “Sorry.” He composed himself and got serious. “Is it okay that we did?”

She met his gaze with wide eyes and raised brows. “What?” She blinked repeatedly. “Yes. I just didn’t expect it.” She paused, and if possible, her expression got more frantic. “You don’t think—I don’t regret it.”

She stroked his cheek affectionately.

He smiled warmly in return and turned into her hand. Gently, he kissed against her palm before facing her again. “I don’t either.”

She exhaled heavily. “I came here to ask you to come home.”

“So we can bang again?” He took a gamble and teased. He had to—the joke was too easy.

She scoffed but laughed as she looked away from him.
