Carter smiled.
Or had gas.
I chose smile.
I walked out the bedroom with one eyebrow finished and one looking homeless, went to the intercom and pressed the button.
“Who is it?”
“Who else would it be?”
I rolled my eyes.
“Good morning to you too, Amanda.”
“Open this door, Avery.”
I buzzed her in.
Amanda stood there with her purse on one shoulder and two shopping bags in her hands.
I looked at the bags.
“What did you buy?”
“Move.”
“Good morning, Avery. You look beautiful today. How are you?”
“Move.”
I stepped aside.
She walked straight past me.
Then saw Carter.
Whole personality changed.
“There go my babyyyy.”
“See? You don’t even come here for me.”
“I raised you already.”
“Wow.”
I handed Carter over.
Amanda kissed all over her cheeks while I closed the door.
“Look at Grandma’s pretty girl. Hi, Carter. Hi, Mama.”
“She ate already.”
“How much?”
“Almost the whole bottle.”
