I buried my little brother four months ago.
There wasn’t shit about that that felt like winning.
“You got that old-man stare again.”
I looked at Henry.
“I’m thirty-six.”
“Exactly.”
“Nigga.”
He laughed and reached across the island.
I slapped his hand.
“Didn’t I tell you leave my fucking wing alone?”
“You wasn’t eating it!”
“Now I’m eating it out of principle.”
I picked the wing up and bit into it while staring directly at him.
“You crazy.”
“And you’re homeless if you keep talking.”
He laughed.
I looked back at Sam’s text.
Tell Michael I’m bringing his cookies.
Three dots immediately appeared.
And me?
I smiled.
What you want?
Her response came fast.
`Henry groaned.
“Oh my God.”
“What?”
“You smiling at the phone again.”
“Get the fuck out my kitchen.”
He grabbed his plate.
“Tell Aunt Sam I said hey.”
