“Hey, Levin.”

“What’s up.”

I kept moving.

Xay didn’t.

Of course.

His head turned.

I smacked the back of it.

“Ow! Nigga!”

“Walk.”

“Why you hit me?”

“You got a wife.”

“So?”

I stopped and looked at him.

He started laughing.

Avery flashed through my head.

I turned around and kept walking.

Nigga was unbelievable.

“LEVVVV!”

I looked toward the bar.

Tyler came from behind it with a clipboard in one hand and a bottle of water in the other.

“Look who decided to come to work,” I said.

“Fuck you. I’ve been here since nine.”

“That’s why you ugly.”

“Still prettier than you.”

I laughed as he came toward me.

Tyler had been my nigga for years.

Not one of them prison friendships either.

Before that.

Way before that.

We came up in the streets around the same time. Made money together. Lost money together. Fought together. Had guns pointed at us together. Had women play both of us and then sat around laughing about the shit afterward.
