Carter.
My niece.
The little girl I had held.
Fed.
Bought clothes for.
Loved since before she even came out of Avery.
My mother’s voice came rushing back.
Carter and Serenity look like sisters.
Because they fucking were.
“Oh my God.”
My eyes burned.
“You stood beside me pregnant with my husband’s baby while I was pregnant with my husband’s baby?”
She sobbed.
“You let me hold Carter thinking that was my niece!”
“She is your niece.”
I snapped my head toward her.
“Don’t you fucking play semantics with me right now!”
“I’m sorry!”
Heather started crying harder.
And I looked at her.
Because there was still something sitting in my stomach.
Something ugly.
Something I suddenly didn’t want confirmed.
My eyes went to her.
“Collin.”
Heather closed her eyes.
My knees damn near gave out.
“No.”
I pointed at Heather.
“Don’t you fucking tell me that baby is my husband’s.”
