I ain’t think nothing of it.
That was my wife.
I could kiss my fucking wife.
What I didn’t notice was how many different people in that room had a reason to pay attention.
Yeah.
I was definitely fucking my wife tonight.
For once, that was probably the least complicated thing I had going on.
AVERY
I barely made it into the bathroom before my stomach turned again.
“Fuck.”
I closed the door behind me and leaned over the sink, breathing through my mouth.
I wasn’t throwing up.
Not yet, anyway.
But between all that damn food downstairs, the liquor, everybody’s perfume and whatever the fuck else was floating through Levin’s house, my stomach had decided it wasn’t fucking with none of it.
Of course.
This fucking pregnancy.
I turned the water on cold and splashed some on my face.
“No. No, no, no.”
I looked at myself in the mirror.
I couldn’t be that far.
I had literally just realized my period hadn’t come. And after having Carter, pumping and everything else, my cycle hadn’t exactly been clockwork anyway.
I pulled my phone out and sat on the closed toilet.
I still had that period app on my phone that I barely remembered to use anymore.
I opened it.
“When the fuck was my last period?”
I scrolled backward.
October.
I stared at the screen, trying to remember if what I’d logged was an actual period or just spotting.
“Fuck.”
I started plugging in what I could remember.
