“You’re welcome.”

Then she walked out the bedroom.

I stood there listening to her yell goodbye to the kids.

Man.

Fuck my life.

HEATHER

That same afternoon, I had Samantha and Avery over my house helping me get the last of Collin’s shit together.

Destiny would’ve normally been right here with us, but her ass was knocked the fuck out after working at Freckles last night.

She ain’t get home until damn near morning and already told me not to call her before five unless I was dying or having the baby. According to her, those were the only two emergencies she gave a fuck about.

We were at the bottom of the ninth and I couldn’t fucking wait to evict this little motherfucker.

I was tired.

My back hurt.

My pussy hurt.

My ankles had officially disappeared.

I couldn’t sleep without six pillows strategically placed around my body, I had to piss every fourteen seconds, and every time I dropped something on the floor, I had to decide whether I really needed that shit anymore.

Collin had about two weeks left until his due date.

Far as I was concerned, he had served enough time.

Baby shower shit was still everywhere from Sunday.

Boxes lined one wall of my living room. Gift bags covered half the dining-room table. Diapers were stacked by size. Bottles and pacifiers were spread across my kitchen counter.

My washing machine was going upstairs with another load of baby clothes.

Dishwasher was running with bottles and parts after Sam insisted everything needed to be washed before I used it.

Apparently Nurse Samantha had arrived.

“You don’t need twenty fucking bottles open,” Avery said from the floor.

She was sitting cross-legged in front of my coffee table with a pile of onesies beside her.

Sam looked over from where she was organizing diapers.

“Nobody said open twenty.”

“You damn near washed twenty.”

“Because she’s gonna need bottles.”

“How many mouths Collin got?”

“Shut up.”
