“Twenty.”

“Nigga, it’s only fifteen.”

“Interest.”

My eyebrows shot up.

“INTEREST?”

Tyler looked away like he was trying not to laugh.

“You charging your own blood interest?”

Levin slowly took his shades off.

Something about his face made my smile come back, but this time it wasn’t because shit was funny.

It was nerves.

“You got my bread or not, Xavier?”

I laughed again.

“Nigga, I just told you—”

I never finished.

Levin swung.

His fist caught me clean across the side of my fucking face.

Everything shifted.

Bucket.

Lunchbox.

Ground.

Me.

My ass hit the concrete hard enough to knock the air out of me.

“The fuck!”

Before I could fully get my hands underneath me, Levin was on me.

He didn’t give me time to cover up right. First punch cracked my jaw. Second one smashed into my eye. I threw my arms up, trying to block, trying to get a boot under me, but this nigga was already over me raining shit down.

Left. Right. Left.

My hard hat skidded off. Dust in my mouth. Concrete scraping my back. I caught one on the forearm and another one slipped through and split my lip.

I tried to roll.

He grabbed my vest and yanked me back into it.

Fist to the side of my head.
