“I didn’t sense anything off with them.”

“That’s not a yes.”

He knows me too well. “I can’t trust much right now.”

He nods. “Are we going to find Betty and Travis?”

“Yes. Gwen needs to know first. She might want to come with us.” I can probably track them through my spell.

“She’s Betty’s mom, so it will be easier for her to find them.” He lifts a shoulder and reaches for another doughnut.

“My gut tells me we're missing something.” I glance toward the bedroom door. Savy is in the shower, and I’m still disappointed I couldn’t join her.

“Any ideas?”

“Nothing concrete,” I murmur.

“If you need to talk about it…” He stands straight. “I’ll help you any way I can. I want you to be happy with Savy instead of dealing with this shit.”

“We agree on that.”

He looks at me, but pauses. “Do you love her?”

I jerk back, looking away. “Love,” I hum.

“I know the signs well.”

“She makes me…feel.” I grip the counter. “Everything.”

“It’s been a while since you’ve allowed your emotions to show.”

I focus on him. “Yeah.” I shake my head. “She’s been through things that would break most people.”

“You have, too,” he whispers.

“Still, she lives every day to the fullest. It’s rare to see her crack.” Her tears last night didn’t last long.

“She’s good for you,” he smirks.

“Are you hoping her disposition will rub off on me?” I grin.

“It would be nice. You’ve been a grouchy ass.” He laughs.

“Sorry to disappoint, I don’t think I can change that much.”

He leans his forearms on the counter. “I just want you to be happy. You deserve her.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever be worthy of her.” I raise my hand as he opens his mouth. “I think it’s good. I’ll work the rest of my life to make her happy. I’m not letting her go.”

“Have you thought about completing the bond?”

“Every day.” I move forward, pressing my palms on the island. “We aren’t there yet. I don’t want to do it until we eliminate the threat.”

“Griffon.”

“And whoever else.”

“So, you think there is someone else?”
