“Right,” I scoff.
Mateo arrived shortly after I told her everything that happened with the spell. Archer went to greet him and help bring in the food he brought. Aria demanded to know what we were up to when she broke into my house. Foolishly, I told her. As I was cleaning up the mess I left in the bathroom after we ate so that Archer could shower, she must have told Mateo.
“It’s delicious information,” he says.
“Hush,” I hiss, looking toward my bedroom door.
“Shit, the man doesn’t have super hearing. He’s in the shower. You can hear the water.” He glances over his shoulder.
“Still,” I pout.
Aria clears her throat. “Okay, seriously.” She reaches across the island, gripping my wrist. “How’s it going? Is he treating you well? Do you like him? Does he like you? What is his power like? I can sense his magic, and it’s strong.”
“Hold up,” I laugh, and she bites her lip, releasing my arm. I look from her to Mateo and back. “I like him a lot. A lot, a lot. Even sliding towards…love,” I whisper, and lean my elbows on the counter. “I’m pretty sure he likes me. He makes me breakfast, takes me on his bike, and drives safely. Opening up about his childhood was hard, but he did it. I think he’s beginning to trust me. During the spell, he pulled me out, and I could feel his magic.” I interlace my hands and hold them against my cheek, staring out the window. “He’s considerate, sweet, and sexy. He doesn’t smile much, but when he does, it makes me warm. I think he’s been afraid to care about anyone. I feel it, though. He shows me with his actions.” I smile softly.
“Shit,” Mateo breathes, and I blink. “You are so in love.”
I stand straight and look at him. “What?”
“Sis, you want him bad,” Aria says.
“I—” I shake my head, hearing the shower shut off. “Talk about something else.”
“What? Like the weather?” Mateo chuckles.
“Anything.” I watch the bedroom door.
“He’s going to guess we were talking about him if you keep that up,” Aria drawls.
“You’re right.” I turn around.
“I love this.” Mateo winks at me. “So, are we still staying in the house Griffon may or may not know about?” He glances at Aria.
“Hell yeah,” she smirks, and rubs her hands together. “We’ve never been afraid of danger.”
“True,” he mumbles.
“I don’t think he’s coming there,” I say.
“If he can break through your spell, I’m betting he can find you anywhere,” Aria adds.
“Great,” I say dryly.
“Let him come,” Archer says.
We turn to see him walking toward us.
Man, he's so yummy.
“See, Archer’s not worried.” Aria smiles at him.
“But we still don’t know who he is or what he wants,” Mateo says.
“He wants Savy,” Aria says.
“Yeah, but why?” Mateo raises his eyebrows.
“Doesn’t matter why.” Archer stops next to me and brushes his palm down my hair. “He won’t get what he wants.”
