Something moved past me in a blur then I noticed my assailant was tossed in the air. When he landed, his body was lifted like he weighed nothing by the hand wrapped around his neck.

Kyron...

“Ky, not out here. Take this to the back. Too many potential eyes around us.” I heard another male voice, which had me swinging my head to the left to see another man moving in my direction, away from the fire truck parked on the curb, doors wide open.

“Come on, before he kills that muthafucker,” the guy said with a smirk on his face, walking past me. I frowned, looking at Kyron who still had Micah lifted in the air, with only his hand around the kid’s neck. He moved angrily with long strides, while Micah’s body thrashed with an unsuccessful attempt to free himself.

What in the entire hell? Micah had to be at least three hundred pounds and was built like a tank, yet Kyron’s tall, lean frame handled him with the effort required to hold a piece of paper.

“Uri…”

Hearing my name had me following the guy with Kyron. They were both dressed in HGFD uniform pants and T-shirts without their turndown gear and the truck they arrived in was the rescue vehicle not the engine.

I could no longer see either of them because they bent the corner at the back of the building, so I ran to make sure Kyron didn’t actually kill Micah. He was a stupid college kid, possibly with a broken heart and a hand problem, but I didn’t want his death on my conscience.

Killing a HGU student would also garner unwanted attention for supernaturals. There was a chance someone from campus knew Micah was coming to my store. I couldn’t have that, especially since Kyron was now connected to me. Humans barely coexisted with us as it stood. A missing college kid wasn’t going to make our unstable relationship any better. Based on the HGU football sweats Micah wore, he had a presence on campus that wouldn’t go unnoticed if he disappeared.

Just as I rounded the corner, I gasped as Kyron’s hand moved right to Micah’s chest but a blur of movement happened that I couldn’t track. When their bodies settled Kyron’s arms were held forcefully behind his back. The guy holding him struggled to keep him under control. The enraged roar that left Kyron had me pausing my steps and Micah shuffling on the ground, crab walking away from them.

“Calm your ass down. You can’t kill that kid unless you’re prepared for the type of attention that comes with a missing college student. We don’t need that shit, Ky.”

The men struggled but Kyron overpowered him, throwing his arms out to free himself before he shoved the guy so hard in the chest that he went back a few feet. Kyron moved again with lightning speed but the guy moved just as quickly, cutting off his path.

“You want to rip his throat out, and I feel you a hundred percent, but you gotta think. This ain’t it. She’s good, bruh. If you want to beat his ass, do so, but it isn’t going any further than that.”

While he talked to Kyron, I approached them and stepped into his line of sight. His eyes traveled over my face, lowering down my body before they focused on my neck. Angry, red-rimmed eyes blazed and glowed orange from the reminder of Micah’s hand there. Kyron snarled and dropped his fangs.

Oh shit. I have to get this under control.

“He’s right, you can’t kill him. He’s a football player. That’s more attention than either of us need.”

“They can’t do shit if they can’t find his body,” he said cockily, glancing at Micah who had made it to his feet. He was about to run but I held my hand up and imprisoned him in a cylinder of fire that was as tall as his height so he couldn’t get over it. The only way he could run was to go through it, and after I just burned his hand, I had a feeling Micah would stay put.

“You did that?” The man with Kyron smiled, impressed. I nodded arrogantly because people always underestimated witches until they witnessed the strength of our power. I made my way to Kyron, placing my hands on his face before I lifted onto my toes and kissed him.

“Please relax.”

It took a minute but some of the tension in his body eased. His eyes moved over my face and down my body for a second time before he fully calmed down.

“It’s too hot in here. I can’t breathe. You’re gonna kill me,” Micah whined in a panicked tone. Just that quickly, I had forgotten Micah existed. This was the type of power this vampire had over me.

“Let him go,” Kyron said, eerily calm.

“Promise me he walks away from this,” I countered.

He smiled arrogantly. “I’m not gonna kill him, but he isn’t just walking away from this either. Let him go,” he demanded.

I looked at the guy with him for help because this vampire was so stoic at the moment his calmness was scary. I didn’t trust that this poor kid would survive if Kyron got to him.

“Let Ky get this shit off his chest so we can get back to the station. This was supposed to be a quick pull up after we left the grocery store to get groceries for our shift but this fool is out here trying to take lives and shit. You already got my brother acting out of character.” His tone was light and the smile on his face let me know he was more amused than angry.

Brother…

This was Kyron’s brother. He had two but I wasn’t sure which one this was.

I reluctantly lowered the flames. Micah attempted to run but didn’t get far. In the blink of an eye, Kyron grabbed the back of his shirt and tossed him into the building. The brick exterior cracked from the force of his body making contact. Micah screamed like a wounded animal then grunted as Kyron rained blows on his face until his brother pulled him back.

“That’s enough. I said you can’t kill him.” Kyron frowned and broke free from his brother again, snatching the kid from the ground by his shirt.
