“Something tells me you’re uncomfortable with what is going on around you. Does sex make you uneasy?” I tease and Emilia’s whole body tenses above me. “What is it?” I question.

She doesn’t even look at me when she says, “It’s nothing, I’m just not experienced in that department. I don’t want to talk about it.” I don’t believe that for one single second, so I push harder, “Are you a virgin?” I tease, she shuffles in my lap again and I groan. “Seriously you have got to stop doing that,” I grind out. She faces me then.

“No, I’m not a virgin but I’ve never seen anything like this before, so yes in answer to your question, it does make me uncomfortable.” Emilia isn’t elaborating but I know when I shouldn’t push more so I keep my mouth shut for the time being.

Luckily the targets are moving already. They’re heading towards the side door, three guards and the soon to be leader of the Poison Legion. Emilia is off my lap, and I can’t help but feel disappointed at the lack of contact. We both stalk towards the side door. “They’re headed into the alleyway. We can see them on camera, three more suspects approaching the target with three suitcases.” Cass urges us through the earpiece.

We exit the side door. Luckily there’s a recess in the wall so we’re not seen straight away. Emilia is across from me, back to the wall trying to glance around it, but unsuccessful. I’m on the opposite wall facing her. I creep close to the opening in the alley and hear one of the targets. “Cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin, all in these, the guns come separately through courier. Where’s the money? I don’t see it.” he demands. Antonio, the soon to be leader doesn’t show any fear “You’ll get your money later. I want to test the product first.” Emilia tries to get a better view by turning, but one of the guards notices her dress before she can duck back into the recess. “Boss, I’m going to check the alley, think I saw something.”

Shit, two guards are now coming down here. Emilia glances my way with apologies written all over her face. “Shit, they’re coming down here” she spits out.

“No shit, thanks for stating the fucking obvious, they saw your dress!” I whisper a shout.

“Will you shut up and think. We need to blend in somehow.” She demands in question, but my sarcasm doesn’t let up—I’m pissed.

“Blend in? We’re in a fucking alley. How are we supposed to blend in, shall we start shooting up?”

“I have a suggestion but you’re not going to like it,” she counters. I glare at her quizzically, wondering what she could possibly be thinking.

“You need to follow my lead,” she demands. Before I know it, her hands are gripping my suit jacket tugging me towards her, her back hitting the wall first. My mouth crashes down on hers in an instant. A glimmer of understanding enters my head but that’s it. All logical thought escapes me in that moment. Her mouth is addictive, she opens for me, as if in invitation. My tongue caresses hers and she whimpers.

“Fuck, let me hear that again.” I pull her in and resume the kiss, it’s not gentle, nothing about me is gentle. I place her hands above her head and grip her wrists in one hand whilst the other one lands in her hair at the back of her neck. I gently tug on it to move her head exactly where I want it, giving me more access. She bites my lower lip and I can’t think in that moment let alone do anything else, this little Viper has me in her death grip.

The pleasure of him is too much, it’s too intense. My body is hot and I can’t think straight. His tongue explores my mouth eliciting noises from me that I have never heard before. I bite his lower lip, and he makes the most addictive sound. I want to hear him groan again.

I slowly brush my leg up his and pin it alongside his hip, to pull him even closer into my body. I feel his hard length against my thigh and resist the urge to touch him there. The kiss is rough, demanding, hungry, as he pulls back and traces kisses along my throat. His hand finds my knee and slowly ascends my outer thigh, climbing higher and higher. His calloused hands rough against my skin, I crave his touch, I want him to go higher. As if he can hear what I’m thinking, his hand climbs to my inner thigh, and I think he’s going to touch me exactly where I want him to. He grinds his length against me, and I can’t help but moan out loud tilting my head back to give him more access to my throat. He bites down hard on my neck and I cry out. I might just come from this alone and he hasn’t touched me to where I really want him to yet. I think I hear someone announce, “False alarm Boss, just a couple about to fuck.” At least it worked, but I don’t stop.

My arms are still pinned atop my head whilst his hand climbs dangerously close to the edge of my underwear. Just as he brushes my underwear aside with his fingers I hear a shout through the earpiece. “Guys! They’re gone, you’re all clear, they’ve gone back into the club. Steve has called the stand down, he needs to look into the firearms before the strike tomorrow. Stand down has been given.”

Kade pulls away from me, chest heaving as he straightens out his jacket and clears his throat. “We should get going,” he announces and starts towards the door. I’m completely frozen in place. I can’t move, my chest is heaving, my body is still aflame from pleasure and I can’t think straight. I know we’re undercover, but I can’t help but feel we’ve crossed that invisible boundary. I’ve let him get too close, I’m opening myself to him without even realizing it. I gave him my first kiss, even if it was under a ruse. I notice the street cameras turning to readjust their view. Officers were watching us in the surveillance van. Oh God, what have I done?

KADE

I’m sitting in my office, reading a brief for the meeting later, but I’m not thinking about that. All I can think about is the feeling of her skin, the intoxicating moans from her when I kissed her, the feeling of her legs trembling beneath me. I was so close to feeling inside her, I was itching to put my fingers where I wanted to explore the most. The little viper is all I can think about. I have never had someone invade my thoughts so thoroughly before, never been so obsessed and consumed by a woman before her. I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone. I want to be buried inside her pussy so bad, I can’t concentrate. So much so I don’t realise Cyrus coming into the office.

“So, we going to talk about what happened last night?” he quizzed. I know what he wants me to admit, but I’m not going to. “Not sure what you’re referring to Cyrus.” Boredom in my tone. “Don’t even try and brush me off. I saw the footage! You were so going to finger bang her, weren’t you?” I sigh long and heavy.

“I don’t know what it is about her Cy. I don’t feel this way about anyone, so I don’t know what this is. She’s infuriating, she gets on every last nerve and yet, when I look at her, I just want to fuck her no matter where we are. It’s more than that though. I want to protect her. From what, I don’t even know.” The words fall out of me before I can censor them.

“Jesus, sounds like you’re in love with her man. I knew I was going to win the pool on whether you’d marry her.” I scoff in reply “Wait you guys have a pool going on me marrying her, what the fuck?” I laugh in astonishment at the confidence of my unit doing this. “I’m fairly confident I’m going to win. Everyone else thinks you’ll never get married, that you like fucking too much.” Rolling his eyes as he continues “Honestly I think she’s good for you. She challenges you and it sounds like you really care for her so what’s the problem?” I get up from my chair and start pacing my office. My body doesn’t know what to do with itself, I’m restless.

“What’s the problem? Oh I don’t know. How about she’s the chief’s daughter, or Tom has this weird claim on her, or the fact that she hates me, or what about the fact that she’s constantly lying about her past because something is going on with her that she’s not willing to spill.” Frustration lacing every word that comes out of my mouth.

“Are you still surveilling her? Does she know?”

“Yes, nothing useful out of it yet and no, she doesn’t know. At least I don’t think she does. She has a high skill set, she could be deliberately misleading me. Have you found anything useful?” I need to know something, no matter how little or insignificant.

“I did find something, her sister, Althea, she died when Emilia was thirteen years old. It was put down as an accident, but something isn’t adding up with the evidence, someone is covering it up as accident. I think she willingly jumped off that balcony.” I don’t say anything right away, still processing what he’s just said. “There’s something else. Emilia’s mother took an ‘accidental’ overdose a year later, but again someone is covering this up. She overdosed on insulin, she was a diabetic for 8 years and she knew how much she would need. She wouldn’t accidentally overdose. I think she killed herself as well.” Both of us are at our wits end trying to figure out what is going on. I’ve been following Emilia for weeks and nothing. Just home, Cass’s place, the gym, work and home again. Both her mother and sister may have killed themselves for reasons unknown, her father is a drunk, Tom is obsessed with her, and she walks around like a living corpse.

“I need you to keep digging, Cyrus. Start by looking into everyone involved in both investigations of the deaths. See if there are any crossovers. I need to know who is covering them up as accidents.” He nods in acknowledgment of my orders and leaves my office. I fully trust Cyrus to investigate this, he’s been there for me like a brother. I would have no problem trusting him with my life if it came to it. He is right, I do care about the viper, and I won’t stop until I know exactly why she lives in the dark.

EMILIA

Cass and Cara are sitting across from me on the couch. I take to the armchair, as I really don’t want to be close to anyone right now. After what happened, my mind has been occupied ever since. I haven’t been able to eat or sleep, all I can think about is Kade. He is completely consuming the entirety of my being.

“You like him and he likes you, why can’t you see that?” Cara scoffs at me like I’m completely in denial. “It doesn’t matter Cara, I can’t do anything about it, you know that!” I know I shouldn’t snap at them, but this is getting ridiculous. They know the situation, granted they don’t know all of it, but they know the important parts. They should know I can’t do anything right now.
