“No, it’s Diana. You don’t want to make contact with Kristoff.”
“Why?”
“Because you were right to worry. It took me a little while, but I managed to find a secure account with a couple million dollars, deposits made at damning intervals.”
“Where were the deposits traced to?”
“An offshore account and guess where the trail leads to.”
“Stonewall.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry, boss. Stonewall is a front and I’m still trying to discover names.”
“Don’t worry, Diana. I have the one name I really need. Keep the information to yourself.”
Diana chuckled. “One more thing. I did a little digging into Ms. Dayne’s accounts for Sergei.”
“And?”
“There have been a lot of transactions, a number of them recently.”
“Withdrawals?”
“No. Deposits from a trust attorney and a significant amount of them recently. Not a single withdrawal. There’s a second account for her sister as well. And from what I can tell, monies from investments. I don’t know what the man was doing, but it would appear he was playing the stock market and using shorts as a way of in some cases doubling the money invested. Anyway, she’s worth a lot of money.”
“How much?”
“Try well over one hundred million dollars and I’m going to guess she still owns stock.”
Whoa.
“Who’s the trust attorney?” I asked. Maybe Isabel’s father had cared for them after all.
“A guy by the name of Samuel Vincenzo.”
“Is there any chance there’s also an account for Jagger Dayne?”
“Yeah. How did you know?”
“Just my instinct, Diana. Thank you for the information. Exactly what I needed.”
“Yes, sir. But one thing. A huge amount of money was just deposited into Mr. Dayne’s account. As in earlier today.”
“Fascinating, Diana. Remind me to give you a raise.”
“Yes, sir.”
“What the fuck?” Sergei asked.
I tipped my head toward him just as I rolled into the interstate. “First, we found our traitor. Second, Isabel is a rich woman. Third, tonight is the conclusion to the game. One way or another.” Jagger was going to disappear permanently after tonight. With or without his half-sister.
“Diana followed the money trail with Kristoff.”
“She did. The girl is quite clever.” I wasn’t certain how I felt at this point.
“My God. The bastard told them everything. The warehouse. The trip to Fiji. That’s how the man knew everything.”
“And now he’s going to pay for his sins.”
