“Do you, Granger, take Brooke as your lawful wife?”
“I do,” Granger’s voice booms around us and I grin.
“Do you, Brooke, take Granger as your lawful husband?”
“I do.” My voice isn’t as loud but it still rings out clear for everyone to hear.
“Then, by the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife.” Granger’s lips are already on mine when Asha adds, “You may kiss the bride.”
It takes a moment for the sound of cheering to register. Granger’s kisses always block out everything around me. And this one is no different. Except it’s short and doesn’t lead to stripped off clothes. That will come later.
Wrapping my arms around his waist, I rest my chin on his chest and stare up at him. “Hello, husband.”
“Hello, wife.”
“I guess we can’t duck out of our own reception, can we?”
“We can do whatever the hell you want, wife.”
“I think Nan will be upset if we don’t at least cut the cake.”
“Then let’s do that first.” He grins right before he bends, slips his arm behind my knees, and lifts me off my feet.
“What are you doing?”
“Carrying you.”
“Yeah, I got that, but why?”
“Because I can. And I want to.” He drops his lips to my forehead and speaks against my skin. “I don’t think I’ll let you go anytime soon so you better get used to it, wife.”
“I love you.”
His lips move to mine. “I love you too.”
