“Say the word, Trouble. You know I’d do anything you ask.”
She was silent. I understood she was conflicted, realizing her father was entirely different from the man she knew growing up, but I needed her to tell me what to do. I didn’t want to kill the nigga and then have her mad at me. In that moment, it seemed like she couldn’t say a word.
“I’m sorry, baby. I need you to wipe those tears. You’re too beautiful and too strong to be cryin’ over his ass. He chose to use this time to hurt you, and I have the perfect place for him. Six feet under. But this has to be your decision,” I admitted.
“What about the money he owes you?” she said quietly.
“Fuck the money, Trouble. I promised you justice, and that’s what I’m doing.”
She nodded. “Do whatever you want.” She paused to whisper. “Just don’t kill him. I can’t have that on my conscience.”
I nodded. I told her I would handle it and that I’d be home soon. She was right. My baby was pregnant. She didn’t need to make this kind of decision, but I needed her guidance on this one. It was too close for comfort, and there was no telling when I’d catch his ass next.
When I got off the phone, I turned my attention to Rico.
“What was he doing around here?”
“They said he was looking for his next hit.”
A sinister smile spread across my face as the perfect thought came to mind.
“Aye, Rico. Give his ass some white girl or fent. Not enough to kill his ass, but enough to have him wanting more. But if he dies,” I shrugged, “then it’ll look like an overdose.”
“No! You can’t do that to me. I’ll get you your money back!” he yelled.
“It’s no longer about the money, nigga. Are you dumb? You still don’t get it. It’s about your daughter. The one you chose to make your namesake.”
“You can have her!” he snapped like a crazed dog. “I won’t interfere.”
I couldn’t do shit but laugh.
“Nigga, you just don’t get it. I already have her, fuck nigga.”
And just for being a dumb ass, I punched his ass again. This time, when his chair fell backward, I hovered over him and landed a few more blows before Rico pulled me off him.
“We got it from here, Link. Go home to wifey. I’ll reach out when it’s done.”
I stood up, adjusted my clothes, nodded at Rico, and then dipped out. Rico was right. I needed to go home. I knew Justice needed me as badly as I needed her.
CHAPTER 26
Justice
JULY 14TH
Chance’s leg was bouncing like he was waiting to be sentenced. I placed my hand on his knee to help calm his nerves. I had never seen him so nervous before. You would have thought he was the one who was pregnant, given how nervous he was.
Since that night Chance called me about my dad, we had been inseparable. He was overly protective about me and my stress levels. I didn’t ask any questions. I decided I’d wait until I had the baby before I found out what happened. I was unsure how I would feel if I found out he was murdered by my baby daddy.
So, instead, I kept myself busy with doctor appointments and shopping like crazy for this baby.
“Chance, Baby, relax.” I laughed.
He kissed his teeth. “Man, what’s taking them so long? I’m ready to meet my baby.” He paused to look at me with narrow eyes.
“And you sure you’re okay?” he asked for the hundredth time.
“Yessssss. If you ask me one mo’ time,” I said through gritted teeth. “I’m gon’ make you wait in the car.”
