There went that smirk on his sexy ass face. It really should not be legal to look as good as he did. “Okay.”
I grabbed the drink menu, ending the conversation. “Good.”
“Good,” he repeated.
I felt him watching me. “And stop staring at me.”
“Can’t.”
I lowered the menu. “Why?”
“Cause you fine as shit.” He moved closer to tuck one of my locs behind my ear.
I fought the smile that was creeping on my lips because this is what I truly missed about him. I missed the gentle touches and the whispers of sweet nothings that always made my heart melt.
“Yeah, go ahead and smile for me. Don’t fight it.”
He leaned in and took his hand to grip my chin, angling my face to his. He simply stared into my eyes, causing me to blush under his intense gaze.
I licked my lips, and his gaze dropped to my mouth. His tongue dragged across his bottom lip before he sank his top teeth into it. He inched closer and whispered, “Smile for me, baby.”
He placed a kiss on the corner of my mouth.
I was about to tell him exactly where I wanted his lips when I saw a beautiful, dark-skinned woman walking towards us. She was cheesing from ear to ear.
“Well, well, well.” She spoke as she approach our table
Chance’s entire face changed. His eyes closed for half a second before he turned around. The woman approached our table wearing a fitted red dress with long hair falling over one shoulder. She was beautiful, but that wasn’t what caught my attention.
Initially, I kept my guard up, but then I noticed something. Her gaze was locked on Chance first, then on me, then back to Chance. Her smile stayed the same, but her eyes had changed. Immediately, my instincts alerted me. Thanks to my years in jail, I learned not to trust a smile.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” she said.
Chance stood and embraced his sister in what looked like a sibling hug. “You know I had to visit my favorite sister. Justice, this is my sister, Chyanne. Big head, this is Trouble.”
They resembled one another. She looked at me curiously, still wearing a polite smile. The silence stretched about two seconds longer than normal.
Interesting.
I stood and extended my hand. “Nice to finally meet you, Chyanne.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “Finally?”
“Well, technically, I just found out you existed about three hours ago,” I admitted.
Chyanne’s eyes slowly slid toward her brother. “Oh, really?”
“Chyanne,” Chance said in a careful but controlled tone. There was a warning beneath it.
“Yes,” I said, mainly to see what would happen. “Your brother seems to enjoy keeping people a secret.”
Chyanne’s lips curved. “I can imagine. Given his line of work, but anyway… It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Justice.”
Suddenly, they were having a complete conversation without speaking. I glanced between them.
“What?”
“Nothing,” they said at the same time.
