“Damn, Link, she bad as fuck. I ain’t pay close attention to her earlier. What you say her relationship was with your brother?” he laughed.

“Man… I didn’t ask you how she looked. Mind your own business and just get me what I asked for.” I hung up.

Nigga was about to ask too many questions, so I had to shut that conversation down. I went to my room to freshen up. About an hour after my shower, I saw my phone lighting up with hella’ notifications.

I couldn’t do shit but shake my head. If this were a random hoe, I’d pull up and knot her shit up for thinking she could play with me, but since I put myself in the middle of my brother’s bullshit, I guess this was my karma.

Regardless, I was still gon’ make her ass pay, eventually. One outfit don’t cost over twenty bands.

Another notification lit up my phone, but this time it was Rich.

Einstein: Justice Kingsley Inmate #003-67989

Einstein: DOB 10/24/1998

Einstein: Sentenced to 7 years for attempting to smuggle drugs at DCA airport. Only served 5 years for good behavior.

I took a moment to look at the picture he sent. In her mugshot, she looked far more innocent than the woman who attempted to break into my house today. She was naturally gorgeous. Now? She’s still attractive, but her presence feels sharper. Her eyes reveal a lot of hurt and pain.

It was ironic that her name was Justice. I would definitely look into her situation further. If I found out she truly took the blame for someone else, I would make sure she got some form of justice. I was going to make sure I could help her find her light and smooth out those ragged edges, even if it’s just for me. Fuck how she treated everyone else.

CHAPTER 10

Justice

As I drove back to Chance’s place, I played Spend Dat by Yung Miami. After the heartbreak I endured from Chance’s sexy ass, I was gon’ make him pay, one way or the other. Spending over fifteen bands was a nice start, but this was far from me calling us even.

As I was contemplating all the ways to make him suffer tonight, my phone rang. It was Jamie. I had forgotten to update her on everything that’s been going on.

“Hey, sis,” I answered on the second ring.

“Hey, are you okay, girl? I ain’t heard from you since you left.”

“Yeah, all is… okay. I think.” I took a deep breath. “Sis, why the fuck does this nigga live in those big-ass mansions in Champagne? You know the ones we used to pass when Ma Diane took us to Six Flags?”

I asked, taking in the scenery this time. When I drove here earlier, I was so focused on my destination that I didn’t notice my surroundings.

“How? No, better yet, the correct question is with who, because I know that nigga ain’t living up there on a correctional officer paycheck.” She laughed.

“That’s what’s suspicious, sis. He doesn’t even work there anymore. He said he was let go a few months before I was released.”

“Okayyy…” She paused for a moment. “So what does he do for money now? And where are you? Did you leave? Did he do something to you?”

“Calm down. I’m fine.” I chuckled. “He works at the Last Chance shooting range and is in the process of trying to get his own franchise location. And no, he didn’t do anything to me.”

“Okay… You skipped a question. Where are you, and why aren’t you with him right now?”
