Lettie: Make it to the hotel okay?
Me: Yeah, except Ant is snoring louder than your brother
Lettie: Ouch
Me: So sleeping is impossible
I’ve been spoiled the last few weeks. We’ve been in each other’s beds; we usually switch off once or twice a week.
It’s a hell of a lot more than I thought it would be. My girl is doing such a good job letting me in, and I am so proud of her. It’s probably why I’m missing her a little more.
My phone chimes with another text, thinking it’s a response from Lettie, but it’s her brother instead.
Sebastian: Ant is snoring so loud that even I can’t sleep
Me: Want to trade?
Usually when we have to share rooms with teammates, I bunk with Sebastian, but he’s with a newer guy on the team for this trip.
Sebastian: I’m good
Another text rolls in, and I switch to Lettie’s messages.
Lettie: Sorry. *frown emoji*
Lettie: Anything I can do?
I can think of a few things. Another text from Sebastian pops up, and guilt nags me. I know I shouldn’t be messing around with my best friend’s sister. It’s unwritten bro code rule number one, right?
However, the thought of stopping whatever I have with Lettie makes my stomach churn. I have no idea what to do about any of it. I’m just going to focus on the present and see what life throws at me. Even if it’s a fucking grenade.
Chapter Thirty-Nine
Calvin
Ithrow my suitcase in Sebastian’s truck as my phone lights up with a text.
Lettie: Hey! How was your flight? Are you back yet?
Me: Hey, just landed, and heading home now
Me: What are you up to?
Lettie: Not much
Lettie: What about you?
I smile as I type “not much” in response for the second time. I wait a few minutes for a text to come in, but nothing. Not even a text bubble. I stuff my phone in my pocket, and when I unlock my door to my condo, another text finally comes through.
Lettie: Would you be interested in hanging out today?
Me: Calling another shot, Lettie baby?
Lettie: Trying
Me: Hell yeah
Me: Just tell me when
