When he was done, he bent down and kissed me on my neck before turning my face back towards him.
“I’ll be back to do the same thing again. We are making a son and not going to stop until we do.”
I nodded, trying to catch my breath before Caine walked out the door.
I didn’t get a chance to tell him about what Easy told Damon, if it's even true. Damon is known to lie about everything, and if Easy hangs with him, they could be two of the same.
Chapter 14
Duke
The next morning
10:00 am
I sat on the couch in my boxers, eating a bowl of cereal while The Young and the Restless played on TV.
My phone started ringing on the table beside me, but I was comfortable, and the last thing I wanted to do was get up and deal with whoever was calling me.
I was about to let it go to voicemail, but when I looked over and saw Pops name on the screen, I picked up my phone to answer it.
He didn't usually call me for no reason, so I figured I may as well answer. Usually when he calls me, it’s important because our relationship wasn’t lighthearted. It was always about business with that nigga.
“Yo?” I answered the phone, and he was coughing for a good few seconds before he finally spoke up.
“That bitch of yours stole my watch from my drawer at the funeral home.”
“I’m sure Diamond didn’t steal shit from you, Pops. You sure you didn’t misplace it like you been doing everything else?” I lapped the spoon around the bowl to grab the last few pieces of cereal.
“I know where I left my watch, and I want it back. If I don’t get it back, you know what will happen.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’ll call her.”
“No, don’t just call her. Come get me and take me to get my shit back. She will just lie to you. By She can’t lie to me.”
I shook my head at this stubborn ass nigga.
“Pops, shouldn’t you be resting, lying down somewhere?”
“Duke, I have plenty of time to rest once I go to the graveyard. Come get me. Your grandma’s out at the store, and I don’t feel like hearing her mouth when she gets back about me leaving.”
I looked at the time on my phone.
“Man, alright. Give me a chance to get dressed, and I’ll be over there.”
I got up from the couch, poured out the milk from my bowl into the sink, and put the bowl in the dishwasher. It was already filled with dishes, so I turned it on and let it run. I remembered how my grandma was always against using the dishwasher because she said nothing could get bowls, plates, and spoons as clean as two hands.
Stuff like that is why I sometimes wished I had a woman in the house, taking care of things like keeping it clean, cooking food, and making sure all the laundry and shit was done. I’m not saying I couldn’t do all that stuff myself, but it would be nice to have a partner in this house especially now that Miracle was in that center.
After I finished putting all my stuff up, I threw on some jeans, headed out the door, and hopped in the car to get Pops. He stayed in the River Oaks area, which was nice as hell, with houses three times the size of mine. We lived with him for a while after my mom passed away, but that still didn't make us River Oaks ass niggas. Pops had this thing where he didn't believe in buying houses and cars for people just because they were related to him. So, my momma lived a modest life. She wasn't scraping up on bills or anything, but she never lived as she should have with her father being Victor Essex.
When I pulled up to his spot, he and Yogi were standing at the door and I got out of the truck, slammed the door, and walked up to them. "We're going in one of your cars, or what?"
"Nah, let's just go in the truck," he barked, not looking at me and staring straight ahead. I could tell this nigga was on a warpath already.
"All right, but I'm going to have to pick you up. You know you hate when I pick you up."
"Well, I don't have any other choice anymore, so do what you got to do. Wheel me over there, Yogi." he directed his right-hand man to push him up to my truck.
