“I know.”
His pale eyes returned to the warehouse. “Which is why I'm telling you not to rush in there like an idiot.”
I smiled without humour. “When have I ever done that?”
Draugr stared at me. “Would you like the list alphabetically or chronologically?”
“Fuck you.”
“After you.”
Lucien's voice came through the comm. “Movement.”
Every muscle in my body locked. “Where?”
“North window.”
I looked but didn’t see nothing, but then I smelled it. Sulphur, rot, burned earth. Draugr smelled it at the same time. His expression changed. “Demons.”
The first window exploded outward.
“DOWN!”
Something black came through the glass, not a bullet but a creature. It landed on one of our vampires and drove him into the concrete. Then hell opened and the warehouse erupted with movement. Doors flew outward, windows shattered and Demons poured from the building, not nine but dozens.
“FUCK!” I was already moving. The first demon reached me before I'd crossed the road. It was bigger than a man, skin blackened and cracked as if something burned beneath it. Its eyes glowed red in the darkness.
Then it swung. I ducked beneath the blow and drove my fist into its ribs, I heard bone crack, but it barely fucking noticed. “Of course.” I grunt sarcastically. The demon grinned just before I ripped the blade from my belt. “Let's try this.” I growl before I buried it beneath its jaw. That worked as the creature collapsed.
Another came immediately, then another. Gunfire exploded around us. Men shouted, Demons screamed as the night became fucking chaos. I saw Volken hit one hard enough to launch it through a warehouse door.
Lucien to my right was fighting two at once, blood covering half his face, laughing like the psychotic bastard he was.
“IS THAT ALL YOU FUCKING HAVE?” he shouted as a demon tackled him through a wall.
“Lucien!” I call.
His hand appeared through the hole, his middle finger raised. “I'm fine!” Fucking idiot.
Draugr moved differently from the rest of us, he is quiet, precise, terrifying. He slipped between three demons like smoke, cutting throats, breaking limbs, never wasting movement. One lunged at his back but I grabbed it before he could strike. “Not my fucking brother.” I grunt as I drove it headfirst into the concrete, once, twice, until it stopped moving.
Then something slammed into my ribs, and I flew across the road. My back hit a vehicle hard enough to crush the door inward. Pain exploded through me as I dropped.
“VIKING!” Volken roars.
“I'M FINE!” I answer as I pushed myself upright. The demon that had hit me charged. I met it halfway; my fist connected with its jaw as its claws tore through my shoulder. I snarled and drove my blade into its chest, but nothing fucking happened.
“Wrong fucking place?” His face contorting in a grin. I twisted the blade but still nothing.
“Your turn.” He said as he grabbed my throat, but then its head disappeared. Volken stood behind it holding a fucking axe.
“Some of these fuckers have their fucking heart on the other side.”
“Could have mentioned that.”
“I just did.” We turned together as more were coming, there were too many. This wasn't security, or protection, this was a motherfucking army. Malakai's army.
“Roman,” I barked into the comm.
