Confirmation. That was what it fucking was. Instead I tightened my hand slightly around hers. “Tell me your name.”

Her eyes narrowed. “You introduced yourself first so I'd have to tell you mine, didn't you?”

“I already know your name.”

That surprised her. “How?”

“Bryn.”

Her lips parted. I liked her name on my lips far too much already. “Okay, that's slightly creepy.”

“I had someone ask.”

“That's not making it less creepy.”

Another laugh threatened but before I could answer, movement behind her caught my attention. Him. The man from earlier was still watching. He stood partially hidden near the edge of the dance floor, drink untouched in his hand. He wasn't watching casually. Hadn't been for some time. His focus was fixed on Bryn, on her body, her movements. Every time she'd danced closer to the edge of the crowd, he'd shifted. Waiting.

My amusement disappeared. The change must have shown because Bryn glanced behind herself. “What?”

I stepped closer. “Don't.”

Her gaze snapped back. “Don't what?”

“Go near the man behind you.”

Her brow furrowed. “What man?”

“The one near the pillar.”

She started to turn again but my hand moved to her waist before I thought better of it. The first full touch nearly shattered what remained of my control.

Bryn froze. So did I. My fingers flexed once against her side before I forced them to relax.

“Viking?”

“He's been watching you.”

“So have you.”

“Not the same way.”

Her eyes searched mine. “And how exactly was he watching me?”

I looked over her shoulder. The bastard saw me looking now. Good. His face changed immediately because he knew who I was and what I could fucking do to him. “Like he was waiting for you to be alone.”

The humour left her expression. She glanced toward the pillar, more carefully this time but the man looked away. Too late. “I didn't notice him.”

“I did.”

“For how long?”

“Long enough.”

Her attention returned to me, something had changed in her eyes. “You were watching him while you were watching me?”

“I was watching everyone around you.”

“Why?”
