“Wait. Did you say this happened to the whole floor?” Rosi jumped to her feet.

“Yes, it appears so,” Jackson said.

“Cora!” Rosi rushed past Jackson and out into the hall.

I groaned as one of the only lights that hadn’t exploded did so above us.

Jackson eyed it thoughtfully.

“You need to tell people whatever is going on here,” I said, standing. I spread my hands in what I hoped was a peaceful yet reasonable gesture. “If there’s a design issue, it’s better to call things off now than wait until something worse happens.”

Jackson eyed me with the same expression he had the lightbulb. “So you’re a PR specialist now, Mr. Cooper?”

“No, but I care about people’s lives and so should you,” I snapped. My wristband sparked and I yanked it off, tossing it to the side incredulously. “This is getting ridiculous.”

“So far every malfunction has one thing in common,” Jackson said, getting my attention back.

“Electricity?” I asked, grateful he was focusing on addressing the situation instead of covering it up.

“No.” He backed up a couple of steps, and I noticed his hands fist at his sides. “You.”
