“I think someone’s got the green-eyed monster,” Honey sang as she walked next to her.

“Who, me? Who would I be jealous over?” she asked.

“No, not you, Ammo.”

“Ammo isn’t jealous over me. He’s not interested in me,” she told the other woman.

“Sure, sure. You tell yourself that.”

When they were back by their own vehicles, Zander walked over to her and reached down to give her a brief hug.

“We better get back to our motel. It’s past Keira’s bedtime. “

“I don’t have a bedtime,” Keira protested.

“She definitely has a bedtime,” Zander said. “And as you can see, she’s getting cranky.”

Keira scowled at him. “I am not getting cranky.”

Zander gave her a wide-eyed look. “See what I mean? Cranky.”

Aimee barely held back a giggle.

“And then we’ll be heading off early in the morning.”

“Thank you for coming to Charlie’s funeral. It was so nice to meet you all.”

She felt a stab of sadness that she likely wouldn’t see them again.

“You can always come back with us,” Keira suggested.

“Yeah, do that,” Honey said. “We need some more girl power in the compound.”

In the compound? What did that mean? What was the compound?

“What Honey is trying to say is that if you ever want to come stay with us, just let us know. You’ve got mine and Honey’s numbers now, right?” Keira said.

They’d exchanged those earlier, and she nodded. She hugged everyone goodbye and then turned to Ammo as they drove away.

“Are you sure you don’t want to head off with them?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” he replied. He walked to the truck and then held open the door, waiting until she’d climbed in to close it. Then they headed back to her place.

A wave of exhaustion washed over her, and she rubbed at her forehead.

Today had been so stressful, and she was glad that they’d ended it the way they had, because she was pretty certain that she was going to fall into bed and go straight to sleep.

They walked up the sidewalk toward her door, and she came to a sudden stop. Her heart gave a leap as she saw a bunch of flowers sitting there.

“Right, that’s it,” Ammo said, picking up the flowers and glancing at the card. “I’m moving in.”

“Um, you’re what?” she asked, gaping at him as they stood on the porch.

“I’m moving in.”

“You can’t just announce that you’re moving in.”
