She glanced over at him once Randy and the rest of his group had gone. “See? I did use the bat.”
He raised his eyebrows, looking unimpressed. “You should’ve stayed behind the bar. You could have gotten seriously hurt.”
“So could you,” she said. “What were you thinking, taking on six men at once?”
“I was thinking it sounded like a good way to spend the night,” he countered. “What were you thinking?”
He bent down, getting into her face, and she swallowed nervously. Did he know how intimidating he could be?
Yeah, he likely did.
“I was thinking that I need to give you backup because you’re an idiot who takes on six-to-one odds. I was thinking that I didn’t want you to get hurt defending me. That’s what I was thinking.”
“Well, next time, don’t think that.”
“There won’t be a next time, will there? Now, I have to get back to work.”
“No, you don’t,” Danny said, walking over and snatching the bat from her. “Because you’re fired.”

Aimee was angry.
Only problem was, she wasn’t sure who she was madder at.
Randy, for starting it all by squeezing her ass, the asshole. He’d always been a dick, and that wasn’t the first time he’d touched her without her consent. It was just the first time that someone had stuck up for her.
Should she be mad at Ammo? Didn’t seem very fair of her since he’d just been sticking up for her, something no one else bothered to do.
Still, if he’d just minded his own business, or better yet not come into the bar, she’d still have her job, and she wouldn’t have to stress about how she was going to cover all the bills. This job might not have paid much, but it was better than nothing.
However, she was mostly angry at Danny. Because he’d never given a shit, had he? He’d never stopped Randy from touching her, never stuck up for her once. He was her boss, and he just let everybody abuse and walk all over her. And then when she needed him to finally stand up for her, he couldn’t be bothered.
Plus, he’d fired her.
What a fucking asshole.
She was angry at Charlie too, because he was the one who had gotten them into this financial mess, and then he went and died, leaving her with it.
Yeah, she was really fucking pissed with Charlie.
But she guessed the person she was mostly angry with was herself. Instead of leaving him ages ago, she’d stuck around, hoping things would get better. But she hadn’t actually done anything to make it better, had she? Hope only got you so far. You actually had to put some action behind it.
And she hadn’t done that.
So she was really angry at herself.
“Where are you going?”
She was in the parking lot outside the bar. Danny had actually made the ridiculous suggestion that she take off her uniform then and there and give it back to him. Which would’ve left her in just an oversized hoodie.
But Ammo had stepped into his space and stared down at him until Danny had given in and told her just to keep it.
She’d deliver it back to him tomorrow.
Or maybe she’d let Kevin use it as a toilet.
It depended on how angry she was when she woke up tomorrow.
