She moved through the bedroom and into the walk-in closet. Keira came with her. “We need to order you some new clothes. We’ll do that tonight.”
“Oh no, I’m fine.” She swapped out her white T-shirt for a blue one. That would work. She could easily wash her clothes.
“Aimee, you’re going to need some new clothes,” Keira told her. “What about when it gets close to winter?”
“I’ll figure it out. I don’t really have the funds to buy clothes at the moment.”
Keira gaped at her for a moment. “Oh! While you wait for the insurance money? But does Ammo not have any money?”
Aimee could feel herself blushing. “I don’t want to spend his money. I already owe him so much. And anything left out of the insurance money will go to him. I’ll get by. Maybe I can get some clothes from a charity shop? Or perhaps Zander might give me a job?”
That was a good idea. Then she’d be able to earn her own money and that would take a huge weight off her shoulders.
“A job?” Keira gave her a funny look. “Maybe I’d like a job.”
Aimee glanced at Keira’s large belly. “Umm. Think you might be pretty busy with another job soon.”
“Oh yeah.” Keira rubbed her belly.
“What’s taking you guys so long?” Honey complained as she walked into the bedroom. She peered into the walk-in closet where they were. “Where are all your clothes?”
Dear Lord.
“She doesn’t have much because of the fire and she doesn’t want to ask Ammo for money. So she’s going to ask Zander for a job,” Keira replied.
“Ooh, what kind of job? Do you want me to be your mentor? I totally can. You know what? We should go to the shooting range instead of playing with mud pies,” Honey suggested.
“I don’t think the baby would like the shooting range,” Keira said.
“Yeah, probably best to stick to mud pies,” Aimee added hastily, getting changed. “Let’s go.”
She didn’t really want a job like Honey’s. More like Miles. Although she wasn’t great with computers and stuff.
What could she do?
Her mind was whirling as they left the bunker.
“Oh, does someone know we’re coming out here?” she asked.
“Why does someone need to know that?” Honey grouched. “I’m with the two of you.”
Well, that was true.
“I told Miles,” Keira whispered to her.
That was good. She didn’t want to set off any alarms or something.
They reached a large muddy puddle and Honey immediately jumped in. She was wearing a pair of bright red rubber boots with black overalls and a red T-shirt.
Keira joined in, she was wearing a pair of bright yellow boots with daisies on them.
“Ooh that looks fun!” Aimee said, glancing down at her own sneakers. They were new, just purchased after the fire, and she couldn’t go splashing in the mud in them.
“Just take them off,” Honey told her.
“Actually, I’ve got another pair,” Keira offered. “I’ll go get you some.”
“No, no, I’ll just take them off.” She sat on a log to pull her sneakers socks off.
