She could feel her face growing bright red, and he raised an eyebrow. “Are you doing them for me?”

“Well, I wasn’t really certain what was going to happen tonight. Are we just sleeping? Are we doing something more? I don’t know and I didn’t know how to ask. It’s kind of embarrassing.”

He cupped her face in his hands, then tilted her head back and kissed her, long and slow. It was the sweetest kiss she’d ever experienced in her life.

“I have a question for you.”

“What’s that?” she asked.

“Do we have the rest of our lives together?”

“I hope so,” she said.

He narrowed his gaze. “That’s not the answer I want.”

“Yes,” she said with more conviction. “We have the rest of our lives together.”

“So why would we need to rush this?” he said. “We can wait until it’s not too tiring for you to shave your legs, yeah? Until you stop coughing and there’s more color in your cheeks. And I’m talking about color that isn’t just there because you’re embarrassed about the idea of having sex with hairy legs.”

She groaned. “They’re not Sasquatch hairy or anything, but they could be a bit prickly, I guess. No one wants prickly legs when they’re having sex, do they?”

“It would never be my choice, no. And Aimee?”

“Yes?”

“You can always ask me anything. You can tell me anything. There’s nothing between us that we can’t talk about. Understand?”

She nodded, feeling speechless.

“Now get your hairy legs in that bed. It’s time for sleep. You’ll just have to use your control to keep your hands off me.”

Aimee groaned. Sometimes she thought it might be easier on her to have the Ammo back who didn’t joke.

“I’m bored. Can we go for a walk outside?”

Ammo glanced up from his laptop at his girl.

They’d been here three nights now. He’d been making sure she got lots of rest, ate well, and kept hydrated. He hadn’t heard her cough once today, and she definitely had more color in her cheeks.

He could understand her boredom. There wasn’t much for her to do here. He’d finally heard from Branson this morning. The fire was being ruled as arson, but unfortunately they had yet to find any camera footage or witnesses.

It was frustrating as hell.

Webb had just headed into town for some supplies and to pick up the things that Ammo had ordered. A few were surprises that he hoped Aimee liked.

Webb would be back in a few hours. Perhaps getting outside for a bit could be a good idea.

“All right,” he said, setting his laptop aside. “Are you sure you’re feeling up to that?”

“Definitely,” she said, nodding vigorously. “Let’s go exploring, Daddy.”

She let out a squeal when she saw another bug. “Look, Daddy, another bug, another bug.”

Aimee didn’t consider herself an outdoorsy sort of a person. Greasy Knob was the most rural location she’d ever lived in. And it wasn’t like she regularly got out into the woods or anything.

She’d always felt like a bit of a phony working at the Emporium and giving people advice on what to wear or take hiking.
