“You’d do that for me?” She stared up at him in amazement.
“Yeah, I’d do that for you.” She was soon going to find out there was very little that he wouldn’t do for her. After taking the tray of food back to the kitchen and hastily cleaning up, he walked into the bedroom, expecting to find her asleep already, but her eyes were still open as she tracked his movements.
He drew the curtains closed before sitting down on the bed. She reached over and patted the bed next to her. “It would be more comfy if you lay down.”
Ammo nodded and moved over to her side, lying on his back. She reached out and grabbed hold of his hand, wrapping her tiny one around it. “Is this okay? Am I being too much?”
Reaching over, he brushed his lips over her forehead. “You could never be too much. Now, sleep.”
“Yes, Daddy,” she murmured.
He waited for her to tense, to realize what she’d said and freak out, but she didn’t even move, and then a soft snore hit his ears. She was already asleep. She probably didn’t even realize what she’d said, but he did, and he liked it a lot.
Aimee woke suddenly as the bed began to move. Was it an earthquake? What was going on? What was happening?
“What’s going on?” she said, glancing around wildly. Why was it light outside? Had she slept the entire night?
And why was there a man in her bedroom? Then she realized it was Ammo. He turned to her, holding a finger up to his lips.
Ammo was in her bedroom. What was going on? Oh my God, had she slept with him? Had she had sex with Ammo Grayson and she couldn’t even remember it?
That was terrible.
But then memories rushed back at her. She’d picked him up from jail with Gwen and Dominic. Then, instead of telling him to leave, she’d laid down and had a nap with him.
Shoot.
He must have gone to sleep as well. That was good because he looked exhausted. But what was going on now? Why had he just gestured at her to be quiet?
Oh, God. Had she been talking in her sleep? Had she been yelling something?
She hoped she hadn’t been snoring. But she knew she tended to snore when she was overly tired, and at the moment, she seemed to be exhausted all the time.
“I’m really sorry if I snored,” she told him.
“Shh. There’s someone in the house.”
What? There was someone in the house? Why could they not catch a break? Why was it constantly something after something after something?
She was sick of it. Why? Why her? Why couldn’t she live a nice, ordinary life? You know, with nothing more interesting than the trash not getting collected on a Tuesday morning and having to call the trash company to complain.
Why couldn’t her biggest worry be what she was going to make for dinner and the fact that she couldn’t find the ends of the Scotch tape? That one was really frustrating, actually. She’d really appreciate it if she never had to find the end of the Scotch tape again.
Now there was someone in her house, as if she hadn’t been through enough.
“Stay here,” he commanded before stepping out into the hallway.
Shit. What if it was the guy that had threatened her last night? What if he was here looking for his money? He might have moved up his timeline.
Oh, God. And Ammo had just stepped out there.
She had to go and help him. She had to protect him. Climbing out of bed, she raced out of the room and into the hallway just as there was a loud screech.
“What the hell are you doing in my house?”
