“You what?” Kirsten asked, sounding alarmed.

“Yep, one moment I was standing and the next I was on the ground.”

“Oh my God, are you all right? What happened? Is it all the stress or something? Have you not been sleeping?” Kirsten shot the questions out at her.

“Likely just low blood sugar. I hadn’t eaten enough that day. I would be fine if I’d eaten, but Ammo got his knickers in a twist over it and insisted I go to the doctor today. I swear he’s such a worrywart. It’s ridiculous.”

Yeah, it was ridiculous how much she enjoyed the way he treated her.

“Doctor Melton?” Kirsten asked with a strange note in her voice.

What was that about? Was there something going on with her and Doctor Melton?

“Yep. And Sally-Anne was at reception.”

“Urgh, she’s the worst. Almost as bad as Kelly-Anne.”

“Right? She was a real bitch to me as soon as we walked into the clinic and then Doctor Melton fired her.”

“Nooo,” she said. “Really?”

“Yep. And on the way out, she shoulder-checked me. I nearly went flying.”

“That bitch! I’m totally gonna shoulder-check her the next time I see her.”

“Don’t worry about it,” she told Kirsten. “Ammo has put her on his revenge list.”

“His what?”

“His revenge list. Apparently, he has a list of all these people he wants to get revenge on.”

“Wow. I’ve got to start doing that. I keep forgetting who I’m annoyed with.”

Probably a good thing since she got annoyed with people a lot. Then again, considering the town they lived in, it was hard not to get annoyed with people.

“So, anyway, I’m fine. Just need to remember to eat. I had to have a blood test, though.”

“Oh God,” Kirsten said. Her best friend knew how much she hated needles.

“Don’t worry, I was super brave.”

“You were?” Kirsten asked skeptically.

“Yep. I was.”

Why did she get the feeling that Aimee didn’t believe her?

“I just wanted to let you know I’m coming to work in the morning.”

“Are you sure you don’t want more time off?” Kirsten asked.

“No, the very last thing I need is more time off. I don’t want to spend any more time in my head. Although I’ll only be in for the morning, since I’ve got that lawyer meeting about the will in the late afternoon.”

Urgh. That was going to be fun.

She’d been kind of surprised that he even had a will to begin with. It didn’t seem like a very Charlie thing to do.

But hopefully it made things easier for her.
