“Holy. Shit.” I know I’m embarrassing myself with the way I’m gawking at him, but I can’t find a reason to care. Asher Brooks is standing in the doorway. I have no idea what he is doing here, but I’m too starstruck to care.
Asher chuckles, cocking his head. “You must be Carson.”
I nod, still gaping at him like a fish. Holy fuck he knows my name. Asher Brooks knows my name.
“Alexis told me about you.” My eyes widen. “Don’t worry, only good things, I promise.” He pats my shoulder, grinning, walking inside, taking his black suitcase with him. He enters the living room, gazing around eyeing all the decorations, while I’m still standing by the door speechless.
“You know Alexis?”
He raises a brow. “She didn’t tell you about me? We have been best friends for years.”
Holy shit. He’s the best friend she was talking about earlier. She never mentioned he was famous.
“You’re the best friend?” I whisper mostly to myself.
He nods. “Let me guess, she didn’t tell you I was famous.”
“No, she said she had a best friend, but she did not mention it was you.”
“Ah, yeah, she has a habit of doing that.” He stares at the garden.
“Is she not here?”
I point towards the stairs, swallowing hard. “She’s sleeping,” I manage to say, my voice wavering. Holy fuck this is really happening. I close the door behind me, taking a few steps towards him, then one back. I have no clue how to act around him.
“Do you want some water?”
He throws me a glance from over his shoulder. “Sure, thanks.”
I open the kitchen cabinet, my hands sweating so much I almost drop the glass. I bonk my head against the kitchen counter.
Come on, Carson, he’s just a normal baseball player, a famous one, who happens to be your girlfrie—Fuck. I don’t even know if she’s my girlfriend. Am I supposed to ask her that? Or is she already my girlfriend? I have no clue how this works.
“I don’t bite, you know.” Asher’s words snap my out of spiral. He grins from where he’s sitting on the couch, his legs splayed in front of him. “So Carson,” he starts, smirking slightly eyeing me carefully. I swallow past the lump in my throat.
Fuck he’s going to hold the whole, if you hurt my best friend I’ll kill you speech. I never imagined my role model would threaten to kill me. “What are your intentions with my best friend?” Fuck I was right. He raises a brow when I keep quiet, I don’t think I have ever been so nervous in my life.
“Uhh, I want to cherish her, we just started dating, and I—”
“You’re dating? She didn’t tell me that.” Oh fuck.
“No, I mean yes…I don’t know? we just did it last night.”
“Did it? You had sex with my best friend?” He sounds angry. Oh fuck I’m going to die.
“What. No, no. We confessed our feelings last night. No sex, I promise.” My shirt is soaked with sweat, I want to disappear.
“Confessed your feelings? And what are your feelings exactly?”
“That I like her?” I don’t know how to make this better, he looks like he’s going to kill me.
“You like her? That’s it?”
“No. I liked her from the day we met and I can’t stop thinking about her, I think about her every morning I wake up and every night I go to bed. She’s the best thing that happened to me, and I want to treat her better than people treated her growing up. I want to make sure no one will ever hurt her again. She’s the love of my life, which she doesn’t know yet because it would be weird to say to someone you don’t know very well. I want to please her, but I don’t know how because I have never done this before.” The words leave my mouth in a quick breath.
Asher stares at me with wide eyes, then snaps out of his trance. “I did not see that coming.” He looks up at the ceiling when something dawns on him.
“When you say you haven’t done this before, does that mean you have never been in a relationship before?”
