Even with the gun pressed to her head, she giggles. “The whore deserved it.”
I find a small level on the cold steel and pull. It clicks.
“Kain…”
“Shut the fuck up,” I grit, placing my knee on the sofa next to her.
“You won’t kill me,” she muses, her entire act disappearing. “What would happen if daddy found out? He’d kill you, then dismember your body. Who would protect your precious Jordie then?” She runs a finger down my chest, eyes tracing the movement. “You know you loved our nights together.” My body begins shaking. She inches towards me, placing her lips against my ear. “Is her pussy as tight as mine?” She grips my dick through my jeans, licking up my ear and I freeze. “That whore was sent to St Anton’s. Different man every night, used for whatever they wanted.” She shuffles closer, the barrel of my gun still pressed to her temple as she begins unbuttoning me. “She’s lucky that’s all she got for stealing my fuck toy.”
She knew this whole time. My chest heaves, emotions inside me fighting with each other for dominance. But that image of Jordie flashes in my mind… All the times with Lacey play on a loop.
Jordie shakes her head, her own body holding me tighter. “She coaxed you into it, Kain. She manipulated you. It. Is. Not. Your. Fault,” she murmurs into my hair.
I look at her face once more. The sinister grin, those manipulative, brown eyes… and I pull the trigger. Blood and flesh splatter against the back of the sofa.
A moment of shock overcomes me, then footsteps from the basement boom up the stairs and my legs carry me on autopilot out of the house. Frantically pulling at the handle, I almost drop the gun. The dealers shout Lacey’s name, my name.
Racing out to the car, I climb in, slam the door shut and switch the engine on. Hooded, they’re running down the stairs, bullets flying and shattering my windows.
I rev the engine and the car thrusts forward at speed.
Shit.
Moonlight spills onto my balcony, the only sort of peace after today. I glance at the gun on my coffee table. It feels like there’s a string tying me to it, reminding me of what I did.
What will happen once someone notices Lacey is…
Gone.
Her crew won’t step foot into Blackcastle, they’re too terrified of what will happen to them.
But if they come after me…
How the fuck do I tell Jordie what I found—what I did?
But she’s gone now—I just wish the hurt went with her.
Smoke fills my lungs, the herbal essence soothing the chaos in my head like before, allowing me to think of the best way to tell her.
Me: Can you meet me at the warehouse?
Ash: He’s alive!!!!
Blake: When?
My fingers float over the letters.
I can’t fucking tell them either.
A yell wants to break out of my chest.
I flick the ash off the burnt paper watching as it floats down to the brush below when a gentle sigh startles me. I jerk my head to the direction of the sound, only to be fucking surprised again when I see Jordie leaning against the intricate iron, her face pointed to the moon. She looks fucking ethereal. Her hair flows down her back like a soft blanket, shielding her from the cold.
She’s on my balcony. Which means she came to my room to seek me out. I’ve never been more fucking confused than right now, but I welcome her presence. I don’t dare to rip my eyes away for fear she might disappear.
I’m mindlessly inhaling my joint as I drink her in. Completely entranced and utterly bewildered.
We just stand here in silence. A comfortable one. There’s no shouting, no venom spat. Just the quiet accompanied by the low trilling of the crickets.
