“That smells fucking divine. What is that?” I mumble, squinting my eyes.

Asher holds up two cups the size of his head before he places them on the low table in the middle of the room.

“Pot noodles and chicken nuggets,” he says and they both chuckle.

Blake peels the lid of his noodles and stirs. “Sorry it’s not gourmet, Asher couldn’t cook anything to save his life.”

I roll my eyes. “It still smells better than nothing.”

As I straighten, it takes a few seconds for my legs to begin tingling as the blood rushes back in.

“Do you need help?” Blake offers with a hint of amusement in his voice.

I slump into one of the low, chesterfield style chairs. I don’t particularly enjoy the decor in the castle, but it’s not like I’m planning on staying here for a long time anyway. “I’m good, asshole.”

Swiping a hot plastic pot off the table, I don’t let the flavours linger in my mouth, as I practically inhale the noodles.

“Knew that would make you eat,” Asher says. I look at him as he puts a forkful of noodles in his mouth, his cheeks puffing out as he chews.

“Can’t find Jordie on an empty stomach,” Blake adds over his own mouthful of food.

They’re winding me up so I get a grip on myself, I know they are. But as the effects of the cannabis wear off, I’m slowly remembering why I haven’t eaten in days.

“What’s wrong with Dorrian? He’s moping around downstairs?” Asher asks.

I freeze, my chicken nugget mid-air. “What did you say?”

“Your brother? He looks like he’s seen better days.”

I shoot out of my chair, making a beeline out the door and through the dark hallways. My feet are moving but it feels like the walls are stretching longer.

“Where are you going?” Asher calls after me.

I don’t reply. I burst through the double doors to the drawing room but I only see a glimpse of black hair before my fist meets the side of Dorrian’s jaw. Probably not as hard as I’m intending it because my body is lacking fuel.

He stumbles back, gripping his jaw before turning around. “What the fuck?” His shocked eyes meet mine.

I swing for him again, but he dodges.

“Where the fuck is she?!” I roar, not quite knowing where all this energy is coming from. My fist comes goes towards his stomach, but he backs away again.

“Where is who?” he shouts, holding his palm out to keep me at a distance but I run at him, elbow to the stomach and knock him to the floor.

“Jordie! Where is she?” I shout, getting another punch in. His jaw is already turning purple.

“Kain—” That’s Asher.

“I don’t know!” Dorrian shouts, pushing me to the floor and scrambling to stand.

“This is your fucking fault! You know where she is!” I push off the floor, already gearing up for another punch, but my waist is grabbed from behind.

“You fucking stink, Kain,” Dorrian says, rounding one of the black sofas while rubbing his jaw. “Where did you get that?”

“What? You don’t like it when roles are reversed? When it’s not me being beaten?” I sneer, charging forward, but I’m dragged back towards the door. “Where. Is. She?” I shout again but Dorrian doesn’t seem the least bit interested. He simply slumps onto the sofa and throws his head against the headrest, closing his eyes.

“I swear to god when I find out—and I will—I will kill you!” I try to pry Asher’s arms from around me, but he’s stronger. “I promise you I will kill you for what you did.”

As Blake closes the door to the drawing room, I become aware of my racing heart and my trembling body. Asher finally lets me free and I drop to the floor, heaving in angry breaths.
