He uses his phone to turn the music down then his teeth come out on full display as the corners of his mouth curl up. “Something tells me you’re not here to create peace, little devil.”

I feel the muscles of my eyebrows softening. He can’t know about the textbook, right?

I fold my arms over my chest, remembering I’m braless and only in a crop top that hardly fits me.

“You don’t know anything about me anymore.” Saying those words out loud causes a sting in my chest.

He shrugs before bringing the cigarette to his mouth again. “Sure.”

My foot begins tapping on the floor frantically, fingers tightening on my arms. “This may be your house, Kain, but I also live here now, so have some respect.”

He straightens, the depths of his mossy eyes sparkling as he roams my face. “You really wanna pick fights with me?” He grabs a lock of hair from my shoulder, and as he does so, my shoulder twitches at the contact his skin makes with mine. “I wasn’t the one that put you in this room.”

“Stop touching me.” I step back, the long strand of my hair following, realisation dawning he might have another camera set up somewhere, ready to send more evidence to Heath and Mother so they can send me away again. This is why he’s doing all of this. He’s luring me in like an incubus just to throw petrol onto my already burning life.

It’s a trap. He did it before, he’ll do it again.

“This is my wing, darling. It’s just you and me here. I can touch whatever I want, whenever I want.” He slowly inches towards me, and I’m caught off-guard by his assertion.

My fingers twitch against my bare skin. I have to fight to keep them glued to myself or risk striking his stupid face.

God fucking damn him. Lucifer damn him. He’s really crawling his way under my skin when I told myself I wouldn’t let him. I need to leave.

My tongue glides along my teeth behind my closed mouth as our eyes stay locked on each other. He stands in front of me and I find myself trapped under whatever fucking voodoo shit he’s doing to me.

Bait.

It’s bait.

Do not take the bait.

“Smoke on your balcony. No one wants to smell that shit.”

One of his eyebrows draws downwards. “I don’t think you’re in the position to be laying down the law, Jordie.”

“We’re fucking done here, viper.” I spin on my heel but before I can make it any further to my room, soft material envelopes me in darkness. “What the fuck?” I force out, fighting off his tight grip from around me and whatever he’s wrapped me in. “What the fuck are you doing?” I screech as I’m thrown over his shoulder. My arms find their way through holes in the material, and I claw at the top of my head, finding an out as I arch my back, trying to release myself. Light floods my eyes again but my hair covers most of my vision.

“Put me the fuck down!”

He doesn’t answer, instead he tightens his grip on me and continues walking.

Kain

“Put me the fuck down!” Her fists pound on my back as the freezing air nips at my exposed torso.

I told Asher and Blake I would meet them at the warehouse tonight, but there was no way I was leaving Jordie alone in that building, nor out of my sight. So, against her protests, she’s coming with me. Bad Omens seemed to do the trick and considering I couldn’t just storm into her room like a psycho and steal her away, this is a much more efficient way.

I press the unlock button on the key fob. “Stop moving.”

“Get me the fuck back into the house, you cretin!” Her legs fly frantically and I have to put distance between me and her to prevent getting winded. She’s putting up a good fight, but it’s not enough against my strength.

I swing her off my shoulder, sitting her on the hood of my car with a yelp. Caging her in on either side with my firsts pressing against the biting cold of the metal, her heat abandons me and my muscles seize while cold shivers run through me. I gave her the only jumper I had on hand, but luckily, my hoodie drowns her enough that it comes down to her mid-thigh.

Noisy breaths leave through her nose. Her hair is tangled around her face, so I weave my fingers into the strands and tuck them to the sides, revealing that permanent scowl she likes to wears on her beautiful face before she jerks away from my touch.

She twists, reaching out her arms to crawl away, but I plant my hand on the hood with a clang and she whips back around. “Why am I out here?” Her words come out demanding. “I told you not to touch me.”
