“Fabio’s house is empty, no signs of life left. I got blood on my shirt, though,” Jett adds.
“Sending men towards the cemetery now,” Mikhail says.
“We need eyes on her uncles. Tate said Tomasso was leading G to them, something about Tatiana,” I say.
If I know my wife as well as I think I do, that’s her target. She’s going to go after her uncles and end this, even if she is on her own.
“Tatiana. You’re certain he said that exact name?” Enzo questions immediately through the comms.
“Yeah. That name.”
“I knew she wouldn’t stay in hiding for long,” Enzo says. I have no clue what the fuck he means or who Tatiana is.
“Mikhail, move faster. Terzo’s vehicle is approaching the cemetery parking lot,” Enzo tells me.
“I’m ten minutes out,” Mikhail hisses.
CHAPTER NINETY-SEVEN
Gianna
Song- Dark Paradise, Lana Del Ray
A graveyard at night is hauntingly beautiful. I stagger out of the mausoleum. My mom is buried here, right next to Max. And Fabio is in a completely different plot. He didn’t deserve to go to the afterlife and be greeted by our mother.
The first time I found this entrance to the tunnels was by accident. We were laying flowers down on my mom's grave, and I spotted one of my dad's bodyguards disappear into the mausoleum, so naturally, I snuck off and followed him. But that act is what earned me my first overnight stay in the prison. Running off was always meant to be punished.
With a gun in one hand and a radio in the other, I rest my back against the cool granite. Headlights ahead get my attention as a car pulls to a stop. The doors slam, three of them, one after the other.
“Tomasso, come in,” the radio crackles. My Uncle Terzo’s voice is clear.
My eyes widen, and I turn the volume down on the dial.
Flashlights shine towards me, and I race around the back of the structure, pinning my back against it and holding my breath. It doesn’t take long for the low chatter of Italian accents to sweep through the air, along with heavy footsteps.
Clicking off the safety, I drop the radio to the floor. The one thing I will be grateful to my father for is that he taught me how to survive. He taught me that fear will only consume you if you let it.
Peering around the corner, three figures are moving through the shadows. I’d know their builds anywhere. First there’s Terzo, the short, dumpy one. Giuseppe is to his right, with broad shoulders towering over the others. And then Carlo’s to his left, walking like he has a stick shoved up his ass after a botched hip replacement.
Three of them. One of me. But knowledge is power in my case. I know these bastards need me alive to get to Tatiana. They have to offer something to her on a platter, and the only person who can do that for them is me. I’m the only link to Enzo they have, or probably will ever have, other than Dom.
And I ain’t letting them turn their attention to him, or Colten.
It’s not a choice. If I don’t try to stop them, they’ll keep coming after Colten and his family now that they know it’s a way in.
I am not my father. I won’t let others suffer to protect myself. That’s what makes me different from him. So before my uncle’s reach the structure, I walk around to the entrance and stand in the doorway. Gun raised. Chin held high. And I wait for them to close the distance.
If I die here, I die making up for all my past fuck ups.
I know they see me. And I know they don’t care. To them, I’m the daughter of a man they didn’t even want in charge. And I played right into their trap.
“Put the gun down, Gianna,” Terzo says calmly.
“If you wanted to talk to me, you know how a phone works. You kidnapped me, so the gun stays aimed at my enemies,” I snap.
I’m over being scared of my family.
Giuseppe laughs. “You always were your father's daughter.”
