“If Carson is the computer guy on your team, what’s your role?” Chase asked Rafe.
“I’m the chameleon. I speak nearly a dozen languages, and I can blend in with different cultures thanks to my skin tone and facial features.”
What would Garrett’s role be?
He had the skills to work in the field, and he had the good looks to work in a similar role as Babs. The team could take advantage of his detective skills, especially when they came across odd clues or puzzles.
Rafe didn’t care what role Garrett took on, as long as he could stay beside him.
“What other kind of team members do you have?” Cole asked.
“Funny you should ask…” Rafe said as he made a show of turning toward the front door. It was impossible to keep the smile off his face, but how could he?
His earpiece crackled to life and a voice on comms said, “Not gonna get a better opening than that. Here I come.”
Perfect timing.
Cole’s eyes narrowed, “What do you—”
The doorbell cut him off. Elena rose off his lap to answer it. Cole’s eyes were still on Rafe, confusion evident on his face.
Elena gasped after she opened the front door. Everyone waited to see who had arrived.
“Holy shit…” Elena said, remaining frozen for a moment before stepping back and waving the new arrival inside.
The figure stepped inside and pulled down the hood of her raincoat, a wicked smile on her face.
“Delivery for Cole Durbin?” she said teasingly.
Cole stared open-mouthed at his sister. Rafe wondered how long it had been since they’d seen each other.
Thea held a small tube high. It popped, colorful confetti bursting over her head from a mini cannon. “Surprise,” she shouted with a bright grin.
“Oh God, there’s two of them,” Tobias groaned.
A moment later Cole jumped off the couch and rushed across the room to wrap his arms around Thea.
“Thea! Oh, my God, you’re here!” Cole said, his face resting on the top of Thea’s head. Cole stood almost a head taller than her, but their ice blue eyes and devilish smiles were identical.
Cole pulled back, his hands on Thea’s shoulders as he took her in.
“Been a long time, baby bro,” she said, her voice cracking.
“Where have you been? It’s been years, Thea,” he said, heartbreak clear in his voice.
She reached to wipe a tear from his face. Rafe felt like an interloper for watching the reunion, but he wasn’t the only one staring.
“I’ve been working. I couldn’t believe it when Carson told me who he works out with every morning.”
“What!” Cole shouted, spinning to glance at Carson and Rafe before turning back to Thea. “You’re on the super secret badass team of spy/mercenary/Liam Neeson guys?”
Cole peppered Thea with a million more questions, not giving her a chance to answer, before he cut himself off to introduce her to Elena.
The rest of the group broke into chatter, and Garrett murmured to Rafe, “You were on comms with Thea this whole time?”
Rafe shrugged. “Thea wanted to make sure she arrived at the perfect time. I think maybe those siblings share a flair for the dramatic.”
“You all really think of everything,” Garrett said with a shake of his head. “What happens next?”
